So i just bought an x800xl AGP. Installed it on my system and it worked great. Installed new doom 3 exp. workied great. Played till my mind wne t numb and went to bed. Next day go to power on my Game PC......No video....my mouse wouldnt get power....no power to my usb keyboard......no video...my dvd RW wouldnt open...NO BEEP CODES!!! WTF. I shut down and installed my old 9800 pro. Worked fine no problems. SO i checked for MOBO updates for my chaintech sk8t800. There was a newer bios but from late last year. I installed it and rebooted. CLeaned all video drivers from my sys. Installed X800XL AGP again. Same thing!
I tested Card on another machine of mine. Card works GREAT!!! Its not my power suply either. 400 W. im rollin good. any ideas what is causin this? Thanks in advance.

That sure sounds like a power up problem which is usually the power supply given that your motherboard is okay. Have you tried swapping power supplies with your other machine? A good 400 watt supply can mean 18 reliable amps on the 12 volt rail or it can mean something entirely different on a cheaper supply. The wattage just doesn't tell you that much.

When I went from my 9800 pro to my x800 pro, I had to buy a new powersupply because the old one just didn't have the mojo for the x800 series.

I'll make this a trio, your problem seems to point to the power supply. Please take a look in the power supplies forum. You'll get alot of useful information about efficient power supplies. Wattage is no indication of how well a power supply will perform.

i just did the same thing, went from a 9800pro to x800xl agp and no probs. i have an antec 400w power supply...and i love my x800xl :)

same here.. went from a aiw 9700 pro. I would say to swap the ps from the other computer and see if it still does it. That's the cheapest way to find out.

It's the QUALITY of the PSU, not the quantity of wattage that matters. If you've got a cheap $30 PSU in your system, it's more than likely the problem - 400w or no.

ok got a new antec 480 W neo power pwr supply. Still same problem. No video. no power to muse and keyboad, no beep codes. also a funny thing. i unplug power from video card and dont get the usall beeping! not my MOBO and card works great in other machines...what am i missing here. tried everykind of driver driver cleaner, bios updates and older bios...is there a problem with the x800xl and the sk8t800?

easiest thing first: did you check to make sure all your power connecters were plugged in? maybe you knocked something loose...then try booting w/just the bare minimun plugged in. ie: boot drive and vid card...is your vid card locked in?

yes yes and yers...its all good. im no nub u know :)

sorry, iwasnt accussing you of being a noob, just trying the easiest things first. did you uninstall your drivers before installing new vid card?

Could be garbage code stuck in the BIOS. I would do a complete CMOS clear and see if that helps any.
