X700PRO vs. 6600GT - benchmarks inside

Doom 3 is dominated by all nvidia cards. That 6600GT is faster than my x800 pro in doom 3. It's really sorry. lol I don't even compare the benchmarks on Doom anymore. I hate seeing my card getting smashed :( haha. That x700 isn't too bad, looks like Nvidia has the lead most of the time though.

They were pretty much neck to neck until that last set of benches. Then the 6600GT took off! :eek:
 
With value cards like this coming out hopefully devs will start making more graphically demanding games.
 
They should of included radeon 9800pro just for reference since these are competing together.

Seems like Carmack milked Nvidia. Other benches show different other wise.
 
Except for GunMetal, the x700 Pro still looks competitive.
 
If you look at the benchmarks in gunmetal you'll see the trend.

X700 falls between the 6600 and 6600GT. Except in Doom 3 it gets smashed even by the 6600.
 
i should have said gunmetal and doom3. I didn't mention D3 because it's pretty clear it's crushed in that game. D3D performance is still generally pretty good.
 
Pretty poor "review" or whatever they want to call it.

They only use four games, one of which is 4 years old.. The only res' they do are 1024x768, and just three at 1600x1200 :eek: Hardly anything to set in stone.

Doom3 is obviously going to be faster on the NV card.. but in UT2004 the X700 is at 60 frames, and the 6600GT is at 48. Which is a pretty big difference as well.

Not sure how trust worthy these numbers are, but both cards do well, according to them.
 
Yea, I agree, that is an ultra budget review or whatever they want to call it.
 
maybe the x700 pro isn't the $200 card? I don't think ATi can afford another x800pro vs. 6800GT situation. How abotu that x700XT? maybe that's going to be even more powerful, considering this .11 micron crap can handle a lot higher speed then what it's now clocked at..........

It wasn't a review... it looks like some other site leaked benchmarks (Korean site BodNara), then it was posted on pcpop.com as a news item:

looks like the x700 Pro runs at 425MHz core and 860 MHz memory, no wonder it's getting slaughtered. The PCPop article mentions the prices of the x700 series: $149, $199, $249. I really hope the x700 Pro isn't going to sell for $249. :p

edit: the benchmarks used 61.76 for the 6600GT, so the AF/AA score is understandable. 65.xx/66.00 use the ATI style AF so the performance will probably change when it's released.

Doom 3 same old crap. Carmack made 1 revolutionary game. The shooters but he doesn't know how to design games or his design team sucks. Or I'm just getting sick of his games.

I'm about to pick up a card too. I've been using a laptop for 2 years with a radeon 7500 now there's games out for PC that I want to play pretty bad. Half Life 2. Looking at previews and videos make my hands twitch. :eek:

Looking at these cards and I rather get radeon 9800pro for $150 or 6800 vanilla for $250

It's either $199 or $249. $149 or $199 will be for the x700 np or x700 SE (if they make one). The PCPop translation was really bad where it lists the prices.

I liked Doom3, enough to play it all the way through. Far Cry didn't hold my attention that much.

The 6600GT is faster than a 9800XT...and if you have any intention of playing any game based on the Doom3 engine at all...the 6600GT is an awesome value...

Funny that ATi seems to want to put the x700xt at $250 which sets it up to compete more with the 6800NU rather than the 6600GT...

ATi has been making some serious pricing booboo's latly, i woudlnt be surprised if it was at that price....which would make the 6600GT the obvious choice...
 
on a .11u process the core should be hitting 600mhz at a reasonable voltage. even tho theres a slight die increase over the 9600 series we can still hit 600 with vmods on .13u process.

if ati can up the gpu to 600mhz and memory to 1ghz, or hell why not 700mhz memory but 256bit. price diff between 128bit and 256bit cna't be too much
 
both the 6600gt and x700pro look promising, as expected. any news of possible AGP varients yet?
 
Nvidia says the AGP versions should come out by the end of the year I think.

well remember they don't have anything competing directly with the 6800NU...so there is more of a price-point gap for them...they're positioning the x700xt between the 6600GT and the 6800NU...which may or may not be a good idea...it's also going to be tough for ATi when the SLI hoopla hits the fan...whether you can get it or not, whether you can afford it or not...everyone's going to be talking about the 6600GT in SLI...
 
Just curious but is the X700 based on the X800 core with PS 2.0b or have they made the switch to 3.0 with is series?
 
Well I'm going to wait until some reliable numbers show up but if these benchmarks are true then it looks to be an okay card that happens to lag behind the 6600GT but it if ATi is pricing it at $249 then that would be really stupid.

Is the vanilla 6600 suppose to be at $149 and the GT at $199? Memory escapes me right now, lol.

I would have hoped that NV releases the AGP GT first, they would have be falling off the shelves but I guess I'll wait for either the 6800NU to come down in price or wait for a AGP 6600GT.

I think it's safe to say now that NV has the better cards at nearly every price point.

Yes.

I expect AGP 6600GTs by November. They'll probabley just miss HL2 [if indeed HL2 is released that early].
