I am finally upgrading my machine after 3.5 years. I am trying to avoid upgrading the power supply. I understand that the 5770 uses just over 100 watts of power under full load, but I can't find a clear figure for the power consumption of my current X1900XTX under load. I am worried that my power supply is becoming inadequate (due to capacitor aging) for even this X1900XTX, so I want to see how much power I will be saving with the 5770 over this old jalopy.

iirc, xbit tests the power consumption of the card, not the entire system.

That's the problem with old top performing cards. They perform like a card that's less than $100 now, but also at a higher power level.

Dude, you don't need to worry about replacing the power supply. The HD 5770 consumes less power than the X1900XTX; about 80w.

My HD 5850 uses slightly less power than the X1900XT 512mb it replaced.

Actually a card for less than $100 now, such as the 4850, would completely rape the face off of a X1900XTX.

Looks like the 5770 uses half the power. I've been running my 5770 for a few days now, 3-4X the frame rate for half the power is feeling pretty good to me.
