X1900XT vs X1900XTX

I'm not sure which one to purchase for my newly build computer. It's sporting an X2 4200+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, and some other misc. things. I'm opting to upgrade the crappy X800 Non-Pro that's in there right now and want to stick with the X1900 series as I hear that they offer a good bang for the buck performance.

I've researched both cards and it seems that the only differences between the two is the clock speeds (and memory size).

You are right. That would be the only difference. So I guess it would be best bang for the buck.

What I did is take the FPS from a review of my favorite game at that time (happened to be BF2) and then the price of each card. I then divided the price by the FPS which gave me the cost per frame.

The lower cost per frame means the better value.

I know, it sounds stupid. But it was fun anyhow.

X1900XT 256mb, for $240? Almost how much I paid for a 9800Pro a few years back!

An SLI mobo though? I'd be obligated to get an nvidia card.

You answered your own questions all but the personal choice of which to buy. Knowing they are the same but clockspeeds, do the differences blow your socks off? No. Get the one you can afford. Surely forget paying more than >$40 if you are the least bit worried of price/performance.

Look into using that money on a Conroe.

I've clocked 2 X1900XT 512's to the Max levels in Overdrive...690/800...which ends up being 689/792. Still...it's higher than stock XTX speeds!
