I know, i know, there are a lot of threads about this already, but why not make another one! :D

So, I'm building a new barebone-system, and I'm wondering which card to get.. They are both in the same pricepoint at 190€ (240$) and Im planning on buying a Zalman cooler aswell, since the original coolers are loud as hell.

So the system will be like this:
Shuttle SN21G5 (250W PSU)
Athlon64 3700+
1GB DDR-400

So which one do you think will suit my needs? Will the ATI hogg too much power? Im not even quite sure if the Zalman VF900 will fit in the Shuttle, but Im pretty sure it does.. :)

(7900GT and X1900XT cost around 240€ [300$] so they are a little too pricey for me..)

coss a toin.

They're really pretty much equal in performance, with the X1900GT a little faster @ stock speeds in certain games and in certain higher resolutions. The 7900GS is within 2-5 fps though and prolly overclocks a little better.

I'd say whatever suits you noise wise (X1900GT a little louder, but not much really) and driver wise (i prefer the ATI Catalyst drivers by far).

Yeah, I didn't remember to say that I live in Finland.. Im ordering the parts from Germany, since they are a lot cheaper there. :D

Nope. Shuttles PSU can handle 7900GT.

And the only parts needing power in my system will be 200GB Seagate and the graphics card.

Methinks the x1900 series need a pretty darn beefy supply of juice, so i'd probably go with the 7900gs...not biased because i have one, cause im still unable to test it out due to ram issues, but it's pretty lax on power :)

I think 7900GS + Zalman VF900-CU + some serious overclocking will be the right combo. :D

In some reviews Ive read, it seems that the X1900GT in load needs about 45W more power.

No doubt shuttles tuff shit, but 250 Watts.....

So, what to choose: Club3D 7900GS or Sapphire X1900 GT (older revision). The price is the same. The power need of X1900 GT isn't issue for me, because I have a great PSU.
The only think I worry is the heat. If I get X1900 GT I'm planning to OC it, but the temperature of the card will get even higher. And I don't have the money for the new Zalman cooler... What to do?

If you dont have money to buy a Zalman, I'd suggest you get the GS like I did. Less heat + great overclockability with the original cooler.

X1900GT's cooler has been sort of a problem when overclocking on some reviews I've read. The temps rise too high.

Agree on the power issue, Shuttles typically have a very weak PSU. Shuttle's big Prescott-based SFF during the P4 era only had a 250W PSU! I say 7900GS purely for power draw.

Also, I have to ask, why on earth are you buying AMD when C2D is here, now, available, and benefecial?

Im not made of money..

3700+ costs 90$. Cheapest C2D is 210$. Do the math..
he has a point however u are comparing a dualcore and a single core. but i get ur point.u really only need a single for gaming. dual is just an added bonus.

cheapest c2d is $180 - and it'd spank the pants off a 3700+

When will you guys understand that i dont live in USA.. Even at 180$ its way too expensive for me. Why would I pay 2,5x more for something I dont need. Every game will work nice enough with the 3700+.

END OF DISCUSSION. Lets stay in topic, which was graphics cards..

lol id like to see a core2duo spank me in video games.

get MAYBE 5 more FPS.

Go with the 7900GS, great card. it was reviewed kidna with the new XPS on [H]Consumer.

Already went with the GS. But I think you were answering to this another dude asking the same question as I was..

Ok, I can get Zalman VF700 Cu LED very cheap. So, maybe now I should go with X1900 GT?

I thought of getting that same VF700 + ATI combo myself, but atleast looking at the Zalmans homepage, it seems that the VF700 doesnt fit in the X1900GT. But I cant be totally sure.

That's why I ordered 7900GS + VF700.

So $199.99 + $40 = $239.99? An X1900XT 256mb is cheaper and hella faster. I would probably lean towards the 7900GS due to more OC headroom with the proper cooler.

Does any of you even read my posts before answering? Things dont cost the same here in Europe ffs..

And think about your answer... XT has a 2-slot cooler, which wont fit in the Shuttle and it consumes wayyy too much power.

It cost 240$ + 27$ BTW..

I dont even need to pay for the vf900 as the galaxy 7900gs overclocked version I planned to get do come with zalman vf900 by default. The core and memory is clocked at 550/1600 at default with 1.2ns ram and only cost around 190usd after conversion. Dont think any other brand can beat it with its price :D As for the non overclock version galaxy 7900gs, it comes with a zalman vf700 together with the price tag of only 165usd after conversion. So do enlighten me with the x1900xt 256mb price.
