It was rock-solid stable at 700/800, but artifact'ed on anything above 720/830. Also, temps were too high for my liking. (mid 60's for idle, and in the low-to-mid 80's at load playing HL2: DoD ) I've got an Accelero X2 on my card, but I just don't think it's sufficient to cool the way the card should be cooled with the PE BIOS. I've settled the settings back down to 675/800 for now, and it's humming along quite nicely. Idle's near 50 and load is mid-to-upper 60's.

Still pretty happy with the bios flash, but now I need more aggressive cooling to crank it up. I'm going to drop the Accelero, and go with a watercooled solution. Of course, this means I need to w/c my CPU, and maybe the chipset as well. ;)

I've been pricing options, and it looks like to do the job decently I'm going to need to spend apprx $300. Who knew flashing the bios was going to be so expensive. :rolleyes: :D

I assume you rebooted after the flashing, correct? Also, I had to completely unload/reload ATiTool for it to register the new settings.

they should start charging ppl who want to supercharge their hardware with a simple bios flash then maybe it won't get even more expensive :p
 
My flash has worked out pretty good, though it still needs some more testing, playing Oblivion after a good 30 mins gave me a 10 second lock up and then back to normal. :(

FEAR and other games have worked out great, the perfomance improvement was great!

Yep, restarted the computer and reset ATItool...

Try to manually change the settings, and check for stability. You should be OK to do it that way.
 
I flashed my Sapphire X1800XT with 6-phase power to the PE bios last night. Previous max clocks were about 650/750. It now runs at 700/800 perfectly, although I had to enable Overdrive to do it.

If you're thinking about doing this, use the windows based flasher and back up the original bios before you force flash this new one. I flashed back and forth a couple times before I tried Overdrive in the CCC and it works fine. I don't see how the card would simply stop working just because of this flash anyway, as long as you have the correct X1800XT.

looks like it was the same for me. i have the phase 6 PCB so i tried the flash thing.
I had overdrive disabled and after flashing atitool still reads 594/693 (default clocks).
In CCC the new bios seems to be installed so i rebooted and re-enabled ati poller and ati smart to acess overdrive in CCC again :)

The new "requested" clocks now read 695/792 (2D mode is still 594/693 i guess this is normal, no need to boost in that mode) whereas as far as i can remember it was 621/747 before. :cool:

I suppose the clocks jump these new 3d clocks when a game or a 3dmark starts ? is there a way to check that they are in use ?
i ran a 3dmark06 and got about +150-200pts.
oblivion is working, did not show clearly visible improvement but i haven't tested enough to check for stability
I also ran 3dmark in demo mode for a few hours and i'm happy to see that it looks stable. Does the flash give the x1800xt an extra juice or does it just set clock to 700/800? becausebefore flashing my max in atitool was 650/760... :confused:

Never mind, looks good, the awful stock fan is running about at 50% (horrible noise) and temps show about 80C load and 65C idle
I plan to replace the fan with my Zalman vf-700, hope it will be ok in 5v
 
Yeah it bumps up the voltage some I think. My card still has more left it now. I don't like the 2D clocks beings so high, but that's what they were originally so no biggie. Temps are about the same as yours. After 40 hours of Oblivion I haven't had a graphics crash or artifacts yet. Gained 500 points in 3DMark05. Nice card for $280. And with my headphones I don't hear the fan ;) .
 
Mine couldnt stand the heat of the extra voltage, so Im ocing from the CCC to PE clocks.
 
Could anyone who flashed just tell me what it defaults the voltages to at 700/800? Because I've done those speeds OCing easy but I want to make sure I'm giving it a healthy amount of volts.
