X-fi Titanium HD problem with 5.1

Well, I have a titanium HD and for some reason when I set windows to 5.1 audio suddenly becomes distorted. I get a lot of crackling and the audio sounds muffled. If I set the sampling rate to 96khz 5.1 sounds fine but I can't select the subwoofer. I'm not sure if that actually makes a difference with cmss-3d or thx tru-studio. It would be nice to be able to use 44.1. I notice this with any pair of headphones that I have tried and happens with the latest whql and the latest beta.

I tried dealing with Creative's customer support but that was a mess. They told me that I couldn't use 5.1 with the titanium HD despite what this article on their very site says. In the very next email I was told that the x-fi titanium hd doesn't support cmss-3d. You've got to love outsourced support. So yeah, thats going nowhere.
 
Is the CMSS-3D not supported on the HD but is on others?
I have a Titanium non-HD and a Fatal1ty Pro that are both PCI-E that both have this option enabled.
 
the article you linked says its for using a creative surround sound headset.
not an X-Fi Titanium HD sound card.

The HD supports CMSS-3D.

Yes but that is the only mention on Creative's poorly laid out website on the proper way to set up CMSS-3d.

Every X-fi supports cmss-3d. The fact that Creative's customer support doesn't even know that is pretty sad. I never even got a response back from my last email where I showed him a screenshot of the control panel and asked for assistance from someone else. I'm still in the moderation queue for Creative's forums so I can't post there. I have to say that this is the worst customer service that I've received.
