X-Fi issues

I recently did some failed overclocking and had to reset my CMOS. Afterwards, I calmed my PC down a little and everything was fine except I had no sound (I think I might have touched the top of the soundcard during this process). Device manager showed a yellow arrow indicating the device was not working properly.

I took out the card and reinstalled (had to reinstall into same PCI slot due to space restraints). The drivers for the device will not install because the software says "cannot find supported device" or whatever.

Anyone have any ideas, or did I fry the PCB of the X-Fi?

I had to install the Realtek HD drivers for onboard sound. Not too bad, but it aint X-Fi.

It is an extreme music model.

Any ideas?

the little yellow arrow usually indicates a dead device. ive overclocked plenty of pcs and the x-fi should not have been affected just by overclocking tho it is possible. try it in another pc if u can

Only way to test for sure is to move your card to another computer and see if its dead. Maybe a static charge or something - or just a bad jostle inside your case as your fiddling with resetting the cmos.

Can you test it in another slot by temporarily removing another piece of hardware? To see if the problem is limited to the slot?

That's the kicker, I can't try another PCI slot because I have a heatsink on the X-Fi chip, and my psu is at the bottom of the case (Antec 900).

There are >200 Dell PC's sitting in this room with me right now, but I wouldn't bring my hardware from home to test it on one of them.
