Performance used to be MUCH better than this in the write department..given it is older now and the disk only has 10gb left, should it really account for such a drop? would it be better to clean up some of the stuff to make more space?

Also just before running the benchmark I trimmed the drive with the intel toolkit.

Old system is in sig, new is the ASUS P658XD-E with an i7 920. I choose to hook it up to the SATA I instead of the SATA II/6G after hearing not so great things about the marvell chip, I'm thinking about switching it over and benching again..

Did you do a clean install? or moved the SSD from a Nforce to intel mobo without doing a clean install?

Install intel inf drivers, set AHCI mode in bios, and enable buffer cache flushing under device manager. Filling it up can impact it somewhat, but I'd also try running intel toolbox too and make sure and double check that super fetch is disabled.

Why not just move some stuff off the drive, TRIM again, and see if performance improves. It sounds like you've got enough free space right now to keep performance up to par, but just barely...

If you really want to be sure to fix it, image the drive off to somewhere else, do a secure erase on the SSD, and then re-install the image. The secure erase will return the drive to factory fresh condition - but it really shouldn't be necessary if TRIM is working correctly. You're on Win 7, right?

All filesystems must be under 90% utilize, so get more empty space by deleting files

Open your Intel SSD Toolbox, Check SMART Attributes, and look at the value it has for "E9 Media Wearout Indicator"
