Bascially anytime anything comes up around hardfolding.com the shit hit's the fan. Everyone ends up getting all pissed off at the world, everyone who offers help get turned away after being told only one guy is doing it. Material is always requested for postings/update's but never makes it there or something like thay. It's some weird twisted entity that's best left not touched even with K*'s unit.

Somethings I like about hardfolding.com, some things I personally don't. It's best for all just to nod your head and move along. Just an example of what's at work here, notice no hyperlink from OCP to hardfolding.com. Note we can't speak of the evil IRC chat channel here @ hardforum. It strange.... to put it w/o swearing.

I don't know dude, I don't swing that way but maybe we can swap the suits for short periods of time to prevent any major 3rd degree burns.

I don't blame the owner for refusing help with design, I HATE working with others on a project when more than one person has access to actual code/scripting etc... it makes for a messy situation and a design that's all over the place (unless it's well coordinated which it never is).

But as I said above, my suggestions would take all of 10 minutes to fix (max), maybe another 10 minutes in photoshop making up a new banner.

but that's just what I'd do... he can politely refuse and oh well, I'll live, lol

sure, why not, worst case King won't use it at which point who cares, it will just be a small waste of bandwidth.

I was told by Kyle to put the links on the main page and make them so that no-one could miss them, I tried making buttons and people complained "I can't find any info on how to join", I tried making the buttons huge and people still complained "I can't find any info on how to join", so I added the annoying flashing, only a blind person could miss. Not to mention the nav bar links to the project info have existed since the dawn of the site.

As for the maps originally they were an image map, people complained that they didn't know how to view the info even though the page specifically stated "click the state/region, to view member info."

I would also like to point something out, Kyle posted 03-28-2005, 04:14 PM "I would also like to add that the HardFolding.com site looks absolutely great as well. I like what you have done with it King!"

I swear no matter what changes happen on the site, no matter what is done to it a few people will complain about something.

And as for the not accepting help, maybe you should look at the F@H guide section, I suppose that the guides there shouldn't be considered help that was accepted?

Many people contribuiting articles and info, few or one updating the site.
You guys work on articles and info and graphics and submit it to King.... I bet he'd consider it more than you think.

I myself offered to do some news... then instantly got writers block. :rolleyes:

yup we tried, even asked moose to send in requests for us since ours were not getting through


but like i said.. maybe next time we can get more pimpage

and maybe we can start a contest for a new banner image as well *shrugs*
 
I looked in on this thread to add my kudos to King_N for a good website, only to find that there's been pages of discussion today, primarily generated by tuorz about possible improvements.
So let me bring up a couple of "improvements"
1. I can't easily find the PayPal link
2. T-shirts!!!! My 17yr old folder has a jerk band, but he sells plenty of T-shirts. PLEASE get Kyle to allow the sale of more T-shirts, I only bought 2 and they are wearing out. It's amazing when you are at a hacker's conference and spend a half hour promoting [H] and folding. And now that it seems some "Chapter's" are forming we need to be able to wear our colors like I did in the '70's when I rode a hog.
Also I've now got about 4 "borgs" that need t-shirts for running [H] folding.

Were I KingN I’d simply walk away. Nothing is worth the grief and abuse he takes and all for free I might add.

It’s worse then being married.

As for the Moose, he’s an adult. I guess there is a certain expectation level here at the [H] that most posts will be intelligent, informative and useful. Such is obviously not the case.

It was not always like that here, there was lot’s of fun, good discussions and even heated arguments, but it never got to quite this childish of a level until recently.

The world in general including the Internet is not yours to do with as you please. Every place as rules, sorry but that’s just part of life, learn to live with it.

Over the years many have made suggestions about the site, almost no one followed through. Everyone wants to be webmaster though. Everyone wants to be the boss, no one wants to help.

If you don’t like the site submit a viable alternative to Kyle and see what he says. Don’t forget all the stats etc. Then, and most important, be ready to live with the results.

If you havent been paying attention... there have been many times where we have offered help, and tried to come up with ways to help, and make things better etc etc..

however we have to go through King to do it, and it seems like for the most part he does not want/need any help.

and there are adult things in here if you re-read... looking at ways to improve things... yes there is some playful banter... so loosen up and smile.. it doesnt hurt.. i promise :)



And im all about getting more Tshirts made, would be cool :D

I am paying attention and I really can smile.

Much of the original site was designed but “troder’ “majic” “relic” and “king” and as such has a certain sentimental value. For instance troder made the banner, so it has a certain team historic value. Did anyone ask why it was there? No, just “criticize it first” seems to be the way of things.

The folding site goes back to the very beginnings of the team and just recently King spent months doing updates on the stats to make it accurate and keep if full of fresh information. The fact is it keeps getting more updates all the time.

As for “playful banter”, people don’t get their threads deleted for “playful banter” and people don’t get banned for “playful banter”. Some might want to redefine the term in their own minds.

Moose and KingN follow Kyle’s rules, as is the deal when your become a mod etc. It’s Kyle’s site so Kyle is to be kept happy. If that’s an issue, feel free to talk to Kyle.
 
With growth comes new members (obviously)
with new members comes new ideas and re-posted old ideas
with lots of traffic comes more posts

With the large amount of people we have posting now there are a lot more 'humorous' posts and a lot of people stating ideas.... some that are new and some they THINK are new. yeah the old guard has changed a bit and maybe there aren't JUST helpful posts / threads in this part of the forum.... but there is a HECK of a lot more action in this section.
More people folding and excited about folding.... more contests and callouts....
Our numbers are holding for the first summer in a while.... someone else mentioned that earlier and it's because of all the new blood.
yeah things aren't the same... but with growth comes change.

I for one am enjoying myself and I see others are too.
KingN does a great job with the site but a lot of people have ideas for him. That can get overwhelming for one guy to deal with.
I'm not saying split up the responsibilities of the site.... but maybe hand Moose or DR.K the ability to post news articles they deem fit....
I just feel bad that King is so overloaded..... that's my only thought on the matter.
Doing a great job dude and I wish there was some way I could really help.

For the resord though... I LIKE the flashing banners on the "Join F@H & UD" links ;)
 
I bet if you threw together a nice banner that looked great King_N wouldn't have any problems putting it up there if he felt it needed changing.

And the flashing Join messages proformed their purpose, they cause your attention didn't that?

You know, it’s a funny thing. I just dropped in on a bunch of folding team forums.

Not ONE forum had people complaining or working so hard to tear down their own team.

They seem to understand the whole “Team” thing.


 
I think that we are a good team. I like it when people are honest and share their real feelings on forums, not everyone agrees on everything and I think it's great people express it instead of getting pissed and leaving forever. At least that is what keeps me here.

I'm not trying get on your case Bill, just giving my $0.02.

I hate to double post, but King_N, remember a while back when you asked for guides on various topics? Here's my guide on overclocking and FAH.
 
I have a couple questions/queries/questions relating to the site.

1) Is it possible to add a link so that if you forget you password to login either your password, or a new one, is email? It's pretty standard for most registrations, so I was surprised to not see it.

2) In the Key Chart off the main page, would it be possible to add what the hell the "health" picture/image/speedometer is? I still don't know what it is, and I've combed the whole site to try and find out.

3) When selecting a country from the [H]orde Members link, could you set up a chart that summarizes what that country is currently folding with, similar to the little chart that's at the top of each of the X Members links (ie The chart that's at the top of the Ontario Members link).

Overall, I'm REALLY impressed with this site. It's incredibly good an pointing people to the area that they want to go, and I love how the stats tracking is done. Keep on doing a great job King!

It is showing out of everyone that has starting working on the United Devices project, how many of those are currently working on the project. (in perfect ie.18.3 = 18.3%)

At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
