WWDC!

That laptop sounds sexy but god lord is it pricey. I hope Sharp offers up its version of retina display's for the PC soon as they are in production.

I was expecting $2600+

$2200 is much lower than expected.

And talked about in other threads, was the fact that apple CAN offer these HiDPI displays, because they can easily update the OS to support the higher resolution.

I haven't heard anything about Microsoft adding support for Higher DPI displays.

imacs don't need retina. You can't see a damn pixel on them anyways. It's just going to kill the video card. The 6970m can barely keep up as is at 2560x1440.
They do! They do! The 7970M will handle 5120x2880 all right, and worst case scenario you play at 2560x1440 and it'll look the same as on a standard 1440p display.

If the new iMacs look good, I my do that an go lower end MBP.

Down rezing looks like ass. It won't look as good as 2560x1440. Anytime you down rez it looks horrible.
A 7970m will drive 5120x2880 but gaming wise it's going to choke bad. Even the highest end desktop video card would have a tough time with that.

You will find many who disagree, I can see the difference. If you want to game get a PC.

Meh, just scale down when gaming. I think it's idiotic if someone's going to try gaming at that resolution using a MOBILE card. :p

They're the ones that advertised it with diablo 3 at the retina resolution. It's going to be unplayable at that resolution with that card.

It'll look exactly like it would on a standard 1440p display since the physical screen size is the same.

yea the videocard is going to choke bad unless you so 1440x900 and scale it. Even then its not going to be all that great.

Here is to hoping for iMacs with retina. Ill buy today if they have retina.

I've got a 2GB 650m at 1600x900 on my m14x r2 and it's pretty damn good for a mobile chip. At 1440x900 you'll have no problem playing anything short of BF3 (which plays fine at ~40fps+ high/medium). It would have been nice for Apple to bump the vram up (at that resolution you may need it). I'm more concerned about heat -- Apple laptops tend to get really hot.

BTW: Still no official windows drivers for 650m cards from nvidia.

I'm sitting here in front of an imac. I certainly can't see a pixel. They sell these things with optional high end cards, even if they are mobile. And they advertise them with gaming. And several companies push gaming on them. Apparently they want you to game on them.

If you disagree with that you'll have to take it up with them.

No, it won't. Try it out on some of your machines. Go ahead and down rez a game. Looks horrible. I have a variety of monitors here and it looks horrible. And what would be the point of a nice high resolution display if you have to down rez everything just to get acceptable FPS?

Hey hey, you could maybe play it with 10FPS at lowest settings. Nobody said the experience had to be enjoyable :p;)

Try it on two monitors that are identical apart from one having double the pixel density and report back.

The 2880x1800 is exactly 4x as many pixels as 1440x900. This means that if you play a game at 1440x900 on a 2880x1800, you will have every 4 pixels on the screen displaying 1 pixel from the game, with 4x as many pixels per inch. This will result in exactly the same display quality as a 1440x900 display of the same physical size.

Put simply, 1/4 * 4 = 1

I understand your argument it is just irrelevant. It is the same thing as arguing if people can notice the difference between 100 fps and 60 fps. I have used several 27 " 1440p screens and compared to say the new iPad or the new Mac pro they look like shit.

Wow, really great support for students with autism. It just gets better and better.

Excellent job Apple.

It'll be nice not to have ads popping up every time you do a search in Maps, anyway.

Yea the child lockout so they don't exit or go into the settings is cool. Also the hardware phone number block was crazy why the hell no one thought of that is dumbfounding. Goodbye telemarketing and collectors.

If you're dealing with collections calls, you probably shouldn't be toting an iPhone :)

You've never had them call you asking for some random person daily? I swear for about a month I had to tell these people James such and such no longer has this number to stop calling

Damn, no AppleTV news :(

OT:
and FUCK fedex! I now have to wait another day for my iPad because they couldn't even ring the fucking doorbell to get me to sign.

I'm chalking this WWDC up as "pathetic".

MacBooks - decent spec bump, Retina is extremely nice and was the high point of this WWDC.
iOS6 - the big new feature is Facebook? Whoopde-fucking-doo. The new maps looks nice but a lot of it seems to be feature duplication of Google Maps. Turn by turn directions are finally here.
Mac OS X - meh, still waiting for an actual new version of Mac OS X, since Leopard was their last one. They seem to be following Microsoft in the very bad idea of converging their tablet and desktop OS interfaces, not at all a fan.

Microsoft is following Apple in that regard, and doing it wrong. Apple's implementations have been non-intrusive so far, and are actually beneficial.

As predicted, they appear to have dumped the 17" MacBook Pro. I got the last one! Woohoo!

Retina is gonna rock but I'm waiting for some "1.0" issues that they either sweep under the rug or make it sound overstated. I'm waiting for some sort of "unusually low framerates" or something like that.

Mountain Lion looks cool, iOS6 adds the turn-by-turn which was the last thing I really missed from my Android, and the Passbook thing sounds kinda nifty.

Yes because Apple announced their OSX so long ago...Oh wait Windows 8 came first.

They're both wrong in my book.

I bought a desktop, and a tablet. Separately. I don't want them converged, at all. They are separate interfaces made for separate user input methods.

Every Mac OS release since Tiger has moved further and further away from their former power user shortcut-centric paradigm to replicating iOS gimmicks with a mouse or multi-touch trackpad. I want the 2005 Apple back.

Apple has been trying to converge their OSes since Lion. Actually the stupid jumbo-sized swipe toggles started infiltrating Mac OS as early as Leopard.

Umm OS X Lion has been released for quite a while now and it's had iOS features integrated into it. And Mountain Lion was available for developer testing many months ago too.
