If I were to start making plug and play voltage mods would you buy it? Like you'd just have to plug it in in the right spots, all the soldering, electrical configurations would be done. Probably sell for about $30 a piece or so.

Thoughts?

I'd definitely wait and see how it worked for others first. Also it depends on what kind of results it gave you. If you're talking about 50mhz on the core, it might not be worth the extra cost.
 
The walk-throughs for voltage mods are all over the net, it has the technical specs and instructions on how to make them. My kits would follow those specs, so if the vmods worked for others it would be the same cookie cutter voltage mod so it would only matter as to how good of core/memory you got.

I wouldnt, based on the simple fact if I want to do one I can do it myself. :p

I know a lot of people who do and at my shop if I ever actually got a demand for them I might look into just buying a plug and play type of think to allow me extra time to do other things. Volt mods are really just a hardcore enthusiast kinda thing and generally those who want them can do them themselves. But I dont know, there are people out there that pay the Viper John guy a ton of cash for basically what you'd be offering.
 
I didnt know you owned a shop Skrying, is it in the dfw area? Might drop on in some time if it is. If you dont feel comfortable talking about it you can im me about it or not, whatever :).

How can it be PnP when soldering would still have to be done?
I have a breadboard here with pots, resistors and swithes that Ive used on a gf3, gf4, 9500p, 9600p and two 9800ps. THe fact that I only had t make it once doesnt change the fact that I had to solder the leads to each and every one of those video cards.
 
There are things called "grabbers" which can literally be plugged onto wires there are on chips on cards, find the right wire, catch the wire with t he grabber (rather easy) and then plug the power connector in and it magically works without soldering :p

I dont want to sound like a noob... but what for exactly? Of course more voltage... but would I need to watercool then? This just to allow a higher OC?

I might buy it if It was needed to obtain higher speeds / more stability. I am all for paying someone for / to do something instaed of using the effort to do it myself :) thats why I have a job.
 
I'd buy it if it would give some kind of warranty so that if it killed my card they would replace it of give me some kind of compensation.
 
Probably not, unless it was a well known fact that a certain series of cards overclocked very, very well with a slight voltage increase.

It doens't cause more stability as such but it does have potential for a higher OC.

It does give more stability if you use your card for less time but after a couple years of the extra voltage it possibly could cause card death easier because you are running it out of spec, just like OCing, it can kill it faster but of course this is to be taken with a grain of salt, OCed cards with vmod run for years and years just like regular cards.

That is not the way to look at it, people get voltmods because it has potential to help you reach higher speeds, and people who do this have no guarentees it will happen. It is just a shot in the dark but alot of people do it and have good results. Of course there are some like me who do it and the card can't handle the voltage but I'm glad I did it because I now know my card is maxed out as it is and I am not going to buy better cooling for it now, I'll just start looking for a replacement when
I become unhappy with it.

Warranty is a possibility I could play around with but that would cause the cost of the product to maybe as much as double...

Yeah, if I had a lot of money at my disposal and could take a loss without a hitch, I'd fuck around with voltages all day.

None at all in the way I have done it. Now, depending on the card it might by some stretch of the imagination need a solder, but I am willing to bet that there are solderless techniques that will work with all cards.

I would not trust some cheezy mod to power everything in my computer...if its off I can kiss my nice expencive componants goodbye.

If i was to so it, i would test it with a voltmeter for SURE.

But I admittedly dont know too much about this subject. Thats another reason I wouldnt touch it.

You dont seem to understand this as you said in your post so maybe you should read up about what a voltage mod does to a graphics card. Ask in the forum, I'll post with urls and all.

I would encourage everyone to test it. No one is perfect and fedex/ups/usps can ruin stuff too but I would test it with a voltmeter myself before sending it, as a matter of precaution as well as just ethical business practice.

My bad man. I came here from "new posts" and didnt notice the forum it was in. I thought you meant PSU. In the case of voltmodding a video card, I have and will do it though bios, but i would never do a hardware mod. So for whatever thats worth...
 
Bios voltage upping is not the same as voltage modding man, again you should do some research before trying to make a decision.
