next year (a couple weeks from now) i'll be in the market for a new desktop. budget is $500.

i've been pricing stuff and came across some refurbed devices that have nice specs and are in budget. for example:

i've done some searching and haven't been able to find a cheaper build option w/ similar specs.

so, refurbs seem to be a decent deal. anyone have experience w/ purchasing them?
 
That thing has integrated graphics. I'm not sure what you want to use it for, but that thing won't play anything from the past couple of years.
 
yeah, i'm not too concerned about graphics at this point. i like having an available pciexpress 16x slot in case i want to install a better card but i don't need it right now.

this particular pc probably won't be available in the next month or so, but it has similar specs i'm looking for.

this is going to be a family pc/media server so cpu/memory/hdd are priority.
 
The problem with refurb in general is that sometimes they only have a 90 day warranty or a warrany that's significantly lower than what it was new. Deal breaker right there for me.

That refurb you listed only has a three month warranty. That same setup bought new would have had a one year warranty. You can do better with a DIY setup:

Key notes:
- Yes it has 2GB less RAM but for most people, 4GB of RAM is enough. Not to mention that you can always add RAM later on.

- The AMD Athlon X4 640 CPU is equal to the Q8300 CPU.

- The above PSU is of significantly better quality than the included PSU inside that Acer and will support more upgrades than the Acer's PSU.

- Unlike the refurb, all the parts have at least a one year warranty. In fact, the CPU, mobo, HDD, and PSU have a 3 year warranty
