I want to build a light server for home..we have three computers for the family ,all late stuff.
2/ i7 920's and 1 dell quad 775 9550...I also have an amd socket 754 lying around ..its a newcastle 2800 [1.8ghz] ,its my wifes old rig...i have a copy of server 2003 ,legal copy i bought from a friend ....
ive never setup a server and want to try one out..do you think this rig would be ok to serve as a server for light home use...its all built all id have to do is install server 2003...opinions..
im computer smart,ive been building systems since 1996..just not servers
 
Yeah that system is ok for light home use. I use to use a Pentium III 800Mhz system as my server for 3/4 of a year. Worked out ok until my needs exceeded its capability.
 
should work decently enough. if you want to play with it, it would make a pretty good pfsense or untangle firewall.
