So I have an older (version 6 I believe) Linksys WRT54g wireless router that is used as my primary wireless throughout my new house. However, over the last few months I have noticed that the signal strength has degraded a bit. I have a 1400sq house with the router placed in my office, which is in the middle (north most) area of the house. I have one wall between it and my bedroom on one side and the same to the living room. In the bedroom I have my S2 Tivo and laptop to connect and in the living room I have my Xbox 360, S2 Tivo and Wii to connect.

However, over the last few months the signal has degraded by one bar unless you are in the office and within 5 feet of the router. I was thinking about purchasing a high gain antenna for it but with the price I was wondering if it would be more worth while to upgrade to something newer/better. About a month ago we had a major power outtage and all settings had to be redone for the router and that is when I first noticed this problem.

Any ideas/suggestions?
 
Wow.... 52 views and 12hrs later and nothing? I would have thought someone would have said something about DDRT or Tomato but dont know much about those so guess not.

It's the weekend. Most people are out and about now.

Anyway, as you said, put DD-WRT or Tomato on it and see what happens. If it still doesn't improve, get a new router.

Any suggestions? I heard that Buffalo's were supposed to be kinda the new sleepers...

Hit up SmallnetBuild and take a look at their wireless charts. Should tell ya whats a good router
