Worth the wait for Conroe?

Hi all,

I recently sold my older gaming rig and am looking to build my next system. After doing some research I found out that the Conroe chips are going to be released pretty soon (sometime around July 23rd). The benchmarks are already looking pretty stunning compared to the FX-60 from AMD.

My budget is around $1200 for a new system to be used strickly for games. Before I heard about the conroe processors I was planningon building an Athlon 64 (am2 edition) system.

Is the overall consensus that I should just wait a couple months without a machine until the Conroe chips come out? Again this machine will just be used for gaming (BF2, UT2k4, possibly some WOW)

Thanks,

Jeff

Definately worth it. Not much more to say... you can get the E6600 for $316 and it will outperform a FX-62 and overclock to way more than 3GHz on air at stock volts. It is more efficient clock for clock than an AMD chip, so not sure why you wouldn't want to wait.

Yeah, I love AMD but even I have to admit that it's probably best to just wait. Buy yourself a 3 month CD (certificate of deposit, not Compact Disc) and force yourself to wait because it'll be worth it.

Sounds like it will be worth the wait. And I hope it is since I'm stuck on this 805 until Conroe comes out :).

So is July 23rd the pretty much accepted release date at this point? No need for a CD as I am earning 5% right now with my money market. The Core 2 Duo E6600 sounds perfect for me for around $300.

Right on. Late July is going to be a sweet time for gaming. Now ive gotta figure out what to do until then. I may just pick up a 360 :)

With what bank? My money market at my bank sucks, so I keep most of my extra funds in my E-trade money market b/c it pays better, but I think its still not even 5%.

OH yeah, and back on the original topic. Conroe is worth the wait. IF need be buy a motherboard (that supports Conroe) & 930 to hold you over. Then sell the 930 when Conroes come out.

i've already sold my CPU + RAM to insure that i won't take a bigger hit when i need to gather up cash for Conroe :)

i just need to sell my Mobo now, that's all i really need new right? Mobo, CPU, RAM? lmk if i'm missing anything else

i'd also have to get a new Heatsink Fan huh? unless the Zalman CNPS9500 will fit on a Conroe board then i'm happy

INGDirect is around 5% now (www.ingdirect.com)

For those looking to purchase Conroe on the 23rd, let's just hope Intel can supply the channel with enough of them.

This is my plan - Just sold my whole friggin' rig now so I don't take it in the pooper any harder than I did. It hurt. Anyway, what RAM will be the best to buy for the E6600?

Suggest a Corsair product and an OCZ product, please. :)
