Worth getting quad core or not?

Matters what you plan to use the processor for....... General internet + work processing = dual core / Gaming + multitask = quad core

IMO if you are not planning on upgrading again soon (within the next year or two) I would think a Quad would be a better choice.

If you are looking for a proc for gaming and do normal everyday stuff (movies/net etc.) and are not into overclocking, and not looking to upgrade soon, then I think the Q6600 should be the best choice IMO.
I think within the next year or so we should be seeing more apps/games that will be written with multi-cores in mind. At that point I think the quad cores would really start looking like a good investment.
At least until you get a Penryn or maybe a 32nm proc.

If you keep it for 3 years yes, othewise get a cheap dual and OC it. Everything will be obsolete this time next year anyway, Nehalem. Tic Tock.
