Worst AMD core for overclocking?

I've seen a lot about people having trouble overclocking with their Palomino core AMD cpu's. Well, right now with a 34% oc at stock voltage (850mhz @ 1138mhz), im gonna have to argue the other way :p Anybody else have good luck with the Palomino core?

EDIT: added screen shot, temps are around 35-37*C idle with a Tt silver orb, and it is prime stable overnight.

Im not done yet ;) This board limits my fsb selection and i have yet to unlock the 8.5+ multy's

Put that chip in a newer NF2 board that allows AGP/PCI lock and see what it can really do.

I just talked to him..hes got just that sitting beside him :) Chaintech Zenith, brand new from the egg!

Hey Ice u got the juice to run my oc down? break out the vapo your sitting on and turn that weird A$$ Athlon 4 chip up! :p

I believe the pally cores were early T'breds, not the older plain athlon CPUS...

Thats what I thought, but somehow this 850 athlon 4 has a pally core. Its a mobile, maybe thats why?

palomino was between thunderbird and thoroughbred... I had a Tbird 800 that wouldn't let me raise the FSB past about 103MHz on a KT7 even when the voltage was raised... haha.

I had a 1ghz T-Bird in an Abit KT7-Raid it only did 1.1ghz (10x105), a couple months later I upgraded to a 1600XP (Palomino) in an Abit KG7-Raid, it ran at 1800XP speeds (1.4ghz -> 1.533ghz), about a year later that one died. I then got one of those 1600XP Palomino's that was actually a 2000XP downclocked and was able to get 1.67ghz out of it on the same KG7.

It really wasn't until I got a mobile 2400XP back in February that was able to get a good oc, 2.3ghz @ 1.65V on a MSI KT6 Delta. I just got a nForce 2 board (Leadtek K7NCR18D Pro II Deluxe Limited) today, I'm finally able to run it at 400fsb (I was only able to run it at 170 on the MSI board because that board couldn't change the multipliers). If I were using water cooling I'd probably get more but I love my ThermalTake SilentBoost K7 as it is very very quiet.

from my experience the OC-ability of earlier AMD's werent quite something to write home about.

The T-Bird was just a hot chip from the get go, i dont think those had very much room left in em in the first place. next was the palomino's which werent exactly great nor were they horrible either, like most OCing they were pretty much luck of the draw. Tbred-A's were decent, i got my 2200+ Tbred-A to do almost 2200MHz on 1.8volts. FSB was a limiting factor on that KT400 tho =\ that chip is still floating around somewhere, im half tempted to toss it in a NF2 and see what she can do nowadays. then i got a 2700+ Tbred-B that was pretty decent i suppose, it did 2400MHz on a Volc 7+(worst HSF decision EVAR!) then i hopped on the Mobile Barton bandwagon and this one just screams for some water loving. altho im not quite ready to jump into that. so 2525MHz on a Sp-97 will have to do for now :p

/rant

i still have a duron 600 that will run 1000 on air and it would go higher with pelt/h20
I cant seem to find any info on the older cores (like a side by side list of features) of all the old AMD stuffs

found it, it was a spitfire

Ugh. My palomino 1800+ can't get passed 141Mhz FSB. lol, that's with an aerocool glacier hsf :-\. And at 141Mhz it's about 1.7xV on auto-select voltage (if I set it myself it goes too high :(). Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, 512MB Infineon PC2700, and aerocool glacier (now with TT UFO fan). Needless to say I kicked it back down to stock and am running the tightest memory timings I can on this board (ha, like I even know what those are, I just know CAS2 and some other stuff is 2 :p). Running 54*C typing this with my case at 34*C.

Well, once I get all my stuff in to get the Zenith up and going, I'm gonna see just how far I can push this lil guy. Updates soon :)

Stock Vcore on this chip is 1.55, where do you guys think i should call it quits on air?

My Pally won't even operate if I overclock the FSB by 5mhz, though I'll blame the crap mobo for that (MSI KT4).

Ice shoot me a pm ill send u a good Tt hsf and put a 92mm 6k+ rpm fan on it for ya, lets see u oc a lil more :) in the meen time ill get my shuttle mocked up for the new water gear Thanks to SNT systems www.snt-systems.com and then we will go for max % oc :p Shoot me that pm or hit me up and ill drop ship that hsf to u.

Well, i got my Chaintech setup, and ive tried and tried and tried different oc's and voltages, and the highest stable oc i can get with the 850 pally is 1200mhz (10x120) with a Vcore of 1.6. Not as high as i was hoping, but thats where the stuff in my sig comes in. ;) It does 210*11 at 1.8V and idles around 45*c with a Tt Volcano 6cu+ on it. I dont like it that hot so i just let it run at 200*11 @ 1.725V and idle at 37*c :) Better cooling is on the way, so that will be my next update :D

Glad to see u got the hsf and other stuff. Sorry for the crappy oc on the mobile..guess ill buy that from u now :) happy to see the 2400+ did its job :)

My Locked 2500+ (AQZEA 0341) refuses to boot at 210FSB, no matter how much voltage I throw at it. My RAM should definitely be up to the task, so it cant be my that. 3-3-3-8 timings (default 2-2-2-5), and it still refuses to boot at 210FSB.

Ive been up to 212fsb with my 2400+, but i really had to bump the voltage in BIOS, as this board has a tendency to undervolt. One of the coolest parts about the chaintech is it unlocks locked cpu's :)

If you've got a super-locked Barton (week 39 and later), then nothing will unlock these chips.

yeah, this fact dissapoints me...but i got up to 2.4GHz with my XP2500+ locked, its from week like 50 or something...my RAM blows too, can't wait for the mushkin to work (i'm on my third pack...)

so yeah, mine is a beast...a 600MHz overclock is not too shabby

oh yeah, and finally....I'M A GAWD!! :D

Yea a Palomino can overclock fairly decent... but it's the worse overclocker of all the cores (not including pre-palomino cores because I've never OC'd one)

I'm Impressed with my barton.... a ~1ghz overclock on AMD isn't anything to cough at
