Everyone is asking about RTS games. I just found out about this game. World In conflict. I watched about 10 videos of it on their website and am AMAZED!! This is by far the best looking RTS Ive ever seen. As far as realistic looking RTS's go. From what the site says it just came out this week. Has anyone bought and played it? Can anyone tell me experiences with it? Thanks

Search isnt working so I was unable to find any other threads.

Picked it up last night, Circuit City for $39. I've only played through through the first 2 mish's but I'm enjoying it completely, (running it on my vista build currently for soft particles etc...)

The single player is fun but not hugely deep, the big seller is the multi player, up to 16 people, (doubling the previous RTS number.) I'm going to reserve final judgment until I get a bit deeper into the SP run and get a chance to run some MP wars but thus far it seems to be a very solid title.

What graphic settings are you guys running. My specs are in my signature and in the demo I just downloaded I can only run it at Medium for it to run super smooth. High starts getting low frames when alot of stuff is going on.

I'll spec them out when I get back on my PC at home; its 1680x1050, most everything set to either high or very high... haven't run into any 'monster' battles as of yet so I can't comment to much on the slowdowns when in deep battle.

In short, Great storyline, a blast to play if not a bit tough at times, it is WW3 after all.
Kick ass graphics if your machine has the chops. I give it a perfect 10.

what is the single player like?

Is it like Supreme commander? just a glorified tutorial?

or is it more like CoH where ther eis actually some resemblance of the single player being a viable way to play the game?

after supreme commander i'm a little hesitant to pick of WiC unless it actually has a really substantial single player (i'm not a big multi RTS player)..

I was able to search and found another thread that states that there is an issue with the 8800 GTS 320mb cards running DX10. Can anyone confirm this is a problem? This would be why the game does not run for me on high settings even though I think I have a pretty hi speed system.

yeah, the demo didn't run too smoothly on my 8800 GTS 320 either

Hmm, I just dont want to buy the game if I know it wont run decent on my system. Id love to think that it is just the demo though. I just upgraded to the new WHQL nvidia drivers. Im going to go try it now and see if it improves anything.

what are getting on the game benchmark test? I got a 60 with a 7900gtx @1680x1050 settings on high. btw I love this game 11/10:D

Then this is definitely not the game for you - the big draw for everyone is the MP. You can jump into a match at any time and since rounds only last for 20 minutes max, you don't have to invest a lot of time. I found it fairly repetitive once I got through a few rounds and figured out what I was doing. The graphics were nice, but I need gameplay that isn't quite so shallow. It's basically RTS meets Counterstrike. You don't even have any resource management.

The game runs really badly on my 8800GTS 320MB. Unplayable at 1280 x 1024 using DX10 with high detail. It even runs badly at medium levels. Gave up playing it. So much for the 8800GTS being a good card, WiC destroys this card.

Not much chance for my system running it well if your quad can't run it well either. This game is a real graphics hog. Strange because the graphics are pretty rubbish by current standards

Is this problem only associated with the 320mb version? I have the 640mb version and was thinking of picking up this game.

ok i got some weird testing results

maxed settings dx10 mode @1680x1050

avg.: 28fps
min: 16fps
max:55fps

max settings dx9 mode @1680x1050

avg: 25fps
min: 12fps
max: 62fps

during the part where it shows the open sea/sky and the planes coming head on in the benchmark dx9 gets 62fps but during the nuke explosions and all the smoke/particle effects it only gets 12fps. it seems as though dx10 is much more efficient at rendering better looking smoke and not taking a performance hit while doing so. I also think part of the reason the dx9 mode gets better fps in the open seas/sky shot is because in dx10 mode there are beams of sunlight being rendered very nicely in that part while dx9 has more of just an hdr effect.

this is all on the pc in my sig. also note im using vista x64 with the new official 163.69 drivers.

i think its only the 320mb at this point. should be fine

Unconfirmed if the 640MB cards have this performance issue. Most of the people moaning have 320MB cards but there are a few with 640MB cards that are dissatified with their performance also

I'm going back to playing C&C TW, runs beautifully with max everything. I much prefer resource management RTS games, it somehow feels more complete.

95% from Gamespot is a joke, mid 80's is more the figure I would rate it at. I'm really surprised at Gamespot's mark as they are normally right on the money. Users seem to rate it much lower than the critics, hmmm.

I use the 8800 GTS 640 version in XP and have zero problems with the game, other than time to play it, what with the TF2 beta being so sweet.

I'm going to try a different driver as a few people have mentioned that some drivers have problems with DX10 in Vista with a 8800GTS 320MB

There is a major issue running this game in DX10 mode on my 8800GTS 320MB. Switching to DX9 mode makes a huge difference in performance at the expense of some eye candy. I'm using the 163.69 drivers.

me and some others are thinking of starting a [H] Clan for WiC pm me if you want to join

i get my copy tomarrow so let me know if you want to join i have 2 active players right now but we need atlest 1 more for 4v4 matchs

I'd join an [H] clan. I don't have my copy yet though, and won't for a week or so.

np pm when you get your copy and ill send you a clan invite

Excellent game - pick it up if you're remotely interested in RTS and if not - pick it up anyway, its fucking awesome!~>

Are there more units available in the retail game compared to the demo? Like, is there more helicopters units in Air class?

In single player there are (for each side of the conflict) 3 assault tanks, repair tank, APC, 3 types of infantry, troop transport (for example: humvee for the US), truck, 3 helis and some AA's (IIRC 2) and 2 or 3 artillery units.

Well after 2 days of trying to get the game to run well I've given up and returned the game to the store for a full refund. I'm glad Sierra and Massive won't be getting any of my money. There is a big problem with this game and DX10. I tried reinstalling DX10, updated graphics drivers to no avail. The game even runs badly at 800 x 600 in DX10 mode. I would expect the game to run a minimum of 1024 x 768 at high detail on my card but no this game kills it. The game looks awful at 1024 on medium, it resembles a game from the mid 90's. This has to be the worst optimised game in living history. Bioshock, C&C and Medal of Honor : Airborne all ran nicely at 1280 x 1024 maxed, so what is so special about this game? MASSIVE disappointment!

Sign me up for the [H] clan.

Playing on pubs isn't so fun when you keep screaming for air support to take out the choppers raping your tanks and the only response you get is "lol, noob get your own anti air." :(

I'm downloading the demo today and I'll give it a try when I get home from work this afternoon. If I like it I'll definitely pick up the full version...I've had that itch to get into an RTS again after spending alot of time with FPS games (lots of BF2 and Bioshock currently).

World in Conflict has a very good single-player campaign with excellent voice acting and a brilliant story according to the reviews I've read. And the music is pretty kickass, too.

Why not just use DX9? I'm able to play World in Conflict at 20 to 25 FPS maxed out at 1680x1050 on my system.

A friend of mine is having DX9 choppy frame rates even in the cut-scenes. I personally am getting about 30fps (capped) in DX10 with everything maxed out 4xAA&AF at 1680x1050.

It is Quad optimized so if you're using a dual core don't expect the same performance as a Quad core system is getting.

DX 9 vs. DX 10 there's almost no difference and they got better frame rates with DX 9. Still a really nice looking game though. Anyone have any 1680x1050 or better screenshots of it?

sure

ill post more when i get some good ones
i run it at max dx9 settings and get more then playble framerates id say in the 10s or 20 at times on line and 20-30 in single player
seems to run smooth to me most of the time and thats with 8xCSAA and 16xAF

Thanks.

I don't know why game reviewers aren't using widescreen shots. They are behind the times.
