Workstation graphics card?

I have built a workstation, this is what I have so far. I want to use my system for graphic design, and 3d rendering and development. This is for a business, I have not used graphic design programs in a while. So things have changed! Cgi videos, some 3d modeling and characters. I also want to play some video games to though.

Asus P9X79 -E WS
Intel i7 4820k overclocked to 4.6Ghz H105
4x4gb ddr3 1866mhz
Seasonic 750 platinum
silverstone Raven RV03 case

this is my current build. I am running a 7770 ghz card right now. I am very satisfied with all my current components right now, besides the GPU.

My main question is, Can I get by with a Titan black? Or a regular titan? It has double floating point, and 1/3 f compared to 1/24 compute on a regular gpu.

Or can I use a gtx 760 together with a K20 Tesla?

Or can u only run tesla with a quadro card?

And I really wouldnt want to spend more than $3000.

Someone I know is selling off one of there K20 tesla cards for 1800. That's why I was asking about running one of those, with a gtx card.
 
I do game art/modeling as a hobby, any nvidia card works great in pretty much any professional application. More vram is always a good thing. You don't really NEED a work station card unless you are using them for specific applications that require them.

Avoid ATI just because they are more likely to have driver/display/viewport bugs and issues with professional 3d applications. There's certified workstation ATI cards that seem to work well from what I've heard, but the ATI gaming cards in professional applications tend to do a lot worse than NVIDIA gaming cards.

I am still very curious how the Tesla K20 works. Does it help power the video card connected to the display? For example, if I am running a gtx Titan and a Tesla K20. Does this mean I have a super beast graphics setup? In games? Applications? And 3d design? And will it work? Considerinf they are both Gk110. But utilize different drivers?

It seems as if the Tesla K20 always works to help bring the load of of your cpu.
 
Apprently though it is a toss up depend on app between Radeon (i.e Firepro and such) vs various Nvidia cards. In the applications that support both it does seem more often then not AMD has a less costly answer for within to slightly better performance the Nvidia based ones, I would look at both and the apps/programs you will/have to use. Titan is a "cheap" workstation card, but it still is not a professional card either.
 
At least with Windows 7 (not sure with 8) you can't run a Quadro and GeForce card in the same system due to driver conflicts. So if you're planning on playing games, the GeForce GTX cards are your best options.

With that said, a large reason as to why Quadro cards are better for certain 3D applications are due to heavily optimized drivers. As such, while the Quadro cards you might be looking may have significantly lower specs than a GTX Titan, those Quadro cards are more than likely going to be faster than the GTX Titan in those 3D applications.

Now what "graphic design, and 3d rendering and development" programs are you planning to use?
 
3D art/rendering apps. make no use of DP. There's no advantage to getting a Titan model compared to a 780ti except possibly the additional vram.

As Dangman asked though, we need to know what apps you are going to be running. If they heavily leverage OpenCL then AMD is a better choice. If they use CUDA then nVidia. They might use neither though, for all we know. Fill us in on what you are going to use. :)
 
If you just want to "play" with 3d modelling a gtx 780 should do

If you are.semi-pro then a 780ti or titan.

For pre-visualization titan or quadro

For final rendering you'll need all the gpu power you can get
