I am thinking about an entry level workstation card for a new build and was wondering how it would perform playing movies?

I have CAD and photoshop and was hoping to enhance them.

Plan on going with an led backlit monitor also.

I don't do much gaming, occasionally a little Unreal Tournament online (circa 2000).

Two cards I am looking at:

ATI Firepro V3700 (new)

ATI FireGL V7200 256MB 512-bit (used)

By movies I take that to mean HD movies?

If so, neither of those cards will perform that well when playing back HD content.
 
I'm pretty sure workstation cards still allow DXVA, and DXVA performance is such that even the most primitive $30 card can render 1080p flawlessly, so it doesn't really matter what you buy.

Edit: Not the case, didn't realise just how old these cards are. The V7200 certainly won't be able to do DXVA, the V3700 should be able to though I would think.

Yeah my mistake I was confused about the V3700 card.

Yeah that card should be ok for HD accelerated playback
