work units per cpu / gpu?

Has anyone made a comparison of the various cpu / gpu combinations that generate the most work units per computer?

In other words, if you had a motherboard that could handle 4 gpus and 2 cpus with 6 cores/12 threads each, wouldn't that generate the most work units? (assuming such a motherboard was available)

In terms of WU throughput, the absolute best are SR-2's with 2 x hex cores and 7 water cooled GTX580 GPU's. Now i don't even think i want to know how much that would cost to buy and run:eek:

To my knowledge no one has made such a comparision but most of us on here run a combination of various clients to maximise throughput at the best cost that can be afforded by that person.

1 SR-2 ($549 today)
2 hex cores - (2x - $1000, L5640)
7 water cooled GPUs (7x - $700)
+
$1200 for Ram, two PSU, HDD various watercooling parts.

Roughly $8,700 give or take with a huge power bill

If you are going for max those L5640's won't cut it, x5680's for the max. At which point you could stick another $2k on that

but with a setup like that I am not sure your maximizing your $/ppd or ppd/watt

The PPD per dollar winner is probably a farm full of GTX460, assuming you have a few mobos already to stick them in.

The PPD per watt winner is definitely a dual hex core setup.
