Hey guys,

new to the overclocking world, but i had doen a little to my A64 3000+ on my jetway a210GDMS pro mobo. So anyway my ocing has been good until i tried going past 230FSB. Anything over that andcomputer will post start to load windows2k but before i get to login, i get a BSOD. I have the ram divider on so that at 235 its at about 201mhz i guess 5:6? ive tried raising voltage to ram and CPU and that didnt help. Setting the HTT has only 2 settings in my bios theres 800mhz and 1000mhz so i set it to 800mhz and it still didnt help.

Not sure what the problem but i do wanna try and OC it somemore
any ideas are appreciated, thanx.
 
the 210GDMS has the WORST NB cooling. I need to direct atleast an 80mm fan to keep it stable at stock, much less overclocked. I need to get some kind of new northbridge cooler...
 
im pretty sure the cooling isnt the problem i put some AS5 onto the NB with the stock heatsink and i have a zalman 7000ALCU. I did use to have some cooling problems but the AS% and zalman took care of it.

When i look at the bios temps CPU is aroun 45C NB 37C and system is 26C

before the zalman my cpu temp on load would 61C now its 54-55C.

I agree the stock NB cooler is awful, taking of the heatsink and putting AS5 seemed to help a good deal, and i think have the zalman cool the caps near the CPU and the air near the NB made a big difference.

So can cooling really be the issue or is there something else?
 
hmm wouldn't overclocking this cpu take quite a bit of power? Maybe psu not strong enough?
 
Is the PCI bus locked properly? Maybe a newer Bios revision is needed to get the PCI locks to work. Right about there is where IDE drives start to go bonkers.
 
Either pci or sata bus. Sata tends to crap out around 220-230...usually closer to 220 from my experiences.Don't know if you even have sata on that board or if you have the drives......just regurgitating off the top of my head ;)
 
It could be cooling...could you post your temps for us?

Whats your voltage like? Can you post your stats?

Also is it stable below 220 FSB? Are you setting your HT multipliers lower? When overclocking an amd 64 you will want to keep your ht clock below 1000.

For example if you're running 230 fsb x 5 HT multi thats 1150Mhz HT while at a 4 multi its 920mhz.

He said earlier that he set his HT Link to 800mhz instead of 1000mhz. I guess that's the HTT multi in his bios.
 
Hey thanx for all the replies so far

My stats:

CPU idle:38C
NB idle: 35C
CPU Load: 55
NB load: 44-48
HDD: 27-32C

I am using SATA hard drive. I dont really have an HTT multi setting that i know of but i think the HTT settings are just 800 and 1ghz, so i set it to 800.

my Vcore is 1.41-1.42 and my vdram is 2.65
I tried changing the voltages and that didnt help much.

I tried Ocing it again after the computer had been off for a while and i got into windows2K but once i got logged in it gave me a message saying there was an error and windows had to restart. So i ctrl alt del and logged off and logged back in and got BSOD.

My mobo

a64 3000+
Jetway A210GDMS Pro
chenming mATX 118 case
Leadtek Winfast 2000TV Expert XP tv tuner card
Lite on 1693s dvd burner
1 GB corsair value ram

Is your RAM stable if you run memtest? Maybe your timings are wacked out or something. I'd give it 2.75V or so on the Vdimm ;).
 
From what I read of the reviews, the shipping bios sucks and you need to update to the 7/05 bios. Try plugging your hd into sata ports 3 or 4, these may be locked, as some of the reviewers said they got to 280htt, but who knows what all they had in their rig.
 
Hey guys i fixed it. I had to lower my ram timings i dont know y this worked but it did and im running it at 235 right now 2.1 ghz we'll see wut other trouble i get into as i go higher :D
