The good news is I won 2x6800 Ultras and an MSI SLI mobo through nVIDIAS video contest! http://www.slizone.com/content/slizone/video_contest_winner.html

However, now I am concerned with a couple of issues. I now have to purchase a 939-pin CPU and probably some new RAM capable of supporting this power hungry technology. I would prefer to spend less than $500 but I will spend more to keep from bottlenecking the graphics cards.

1.What type of CPU should I purchase that will give me the best performance/price ratio.

2.Also, does my cooling and PSU appear adequate enough to support dual 6800 ultras?

Your PSU is fine.

I'd suggest if you want to stay cheap and get good performance that you get a 3000+ Venice core A64. Those things fly even at stock, and they OC great.

Memory, sell your current and put that towards a good Cas 2 1GB set like Corsair, OCZ, etc.

That should keep you under your budget easily, and provide good performance.

BTW: That video cracked me up! :D

Congratulations ;).

I'd get a 3200+ since you get a 10x multi and can almost definitely get the 200mhz more to make it the same speed as a 3500+. I personally have mine running at 3800+ speeds (2.4Ghz). Very simple to do. You can do the same with a 3000+, but the multi is lower which might hurt you if you try and OC a venice/san diego which run at higher speeds.
I'd recommend not getting a Winchester with that board since it has voltage issues with Winchesters.

That seems like plenty of PSU power.
 
Sell your old stuff, and put the additional cash towards:
2x512MB VX4000 or Redline4000 if you are planning on increasing voltage, otherwise some good TCCD
Venice/SD 3200-3800, depending on what you can afford
I'd recommend a 24-pin PSU, although you certainly don't need any more wattage- even WITH SLI!

Oh, and maybe sell the MSI board to subsidize a DFI... (I'm just kidding- or am I? :p)
 
Dont get readline. It's absolutly wonderfull memory but it take alot of voltage to reach it's peak and I dont belive that mobo supports that high of a voltage. Grab some tccd chips. They will reach high speeds too albiet at a bit looser timings. Here is a list of ram that has the samsung tccd chips.

HOWEVER, I forgot to mention that, aside from benchmarking, I intend to leave all of my video/cpu parts at STOCK speeds. Based on that fact, what would you now recommend?
 
If you want everything at stock I would get at least a 3500+ and any memory that will do CL2 at stocks speeds.
 
Actually, that's UTT (BH/CH chips that Winbond never tested).

TCCD is Samsung RAM that's built to run DDR500 at 2.5-3-3-7 on low volts, but actually has a really wide range- it's sold as anything from DDR400 at 2-2-2-5 to DDR600 at 2.5-3-3-7 (G.Skill), and I believe that OCZ even uses it in its DDR625/PC5000. It usually doesn't need more than 3.0V, although some weeks respond better to voltage than others. Keep in mind that different chips are good for different ranges, so that the stuff sold as DDR600 is NOT guaranteed to run 2-2-2-5 at lower speeds (unless it's G.Skill, I think).

For stock speeds, get any RAM that'll do 2-2-2-5 at DDR400 with low voltage. That includes Ballistix, BH chips if you can find them, or PC3200 TCCD. For cost effectiveness, I think the Patriot 3200+XBL/K is some of the cheapest stuff you can find, unless you're willing to take a chance with some TwinMOS Speed Premium- apparently they even use BH-5 now! :eek: Worse case scenario with the TMSP: you get CH-5 instead, which will still do timings around 2-3-2-5. At $50 a stick, it's half the cost of the cheapest TCCD.
 
WOW, you are one lucky guy! anyways, if you want everything stock, then those stock ultras would kill anything! anyways, I also suggest the 3500+ venice, and ram like everyone else. and O yah guys, can his truecontrol 550w handle 2 ultras which will eat up the 12v rail? If it was the truecontrol 2, then it will be fine but the truecontrol one..hmm its only 24a on the 12v rail hehe. or is pci-e uses something else?
 
Nope- if anything, PCIe puts MORE strain on the +12V, because it's got a pair of 12V contacts and no five-volt. Molex splits between the 12 and 5 lines, unless they don't use the +5V contacts at all.

i doint think his psu is a good choice . HAving run two Ultras my self , I can tell you nothing short of a PC P and C or equivalent with a 24 pin lead would be my recomendation

Disclaimner: .Antec makes good stuff but the True 550 is not all that is cracked up to be , at least not the one that i owned.
