Wolfenstein

install base, plain and simple. even if half of console only players buy the game its more then PC gamers who have a sour taste in their mouths about the game already.

their a buisness and profit is their goal.

The thing I don't understand is why they even catered to the consoles so much that it is almost crippling the PC version for a Wolfenstein game. The name is PC through-and-through - console gamers aren't going to give a shit about some game called Wolfenstein when they have Gears of War, Halo, Killzone and Call of Duty.

I haven't played the game, but from the videos I've seen and the feedback already out it seems they have nerfed the PC version. They've just sunk any chance of this game doing well in sales.

I guess they can always blame piracy.

The sad thing is that even by console standards its a pretty mediocre game!

7.2/10 for an ign review in reality translates to 5.0 or 6.0 at best.

Depends on what you call sufficient. The internet in our rooms is 1meg down, 256k up split among 11 people. We've got two guys who are addicted to WoW that play on this system. I think their pings sit around 1k. I don't think I'd have much luck with TF2 on our internet. There is a cybercafe on our FOB that has good bandwidth, but it's $5 an hour over there.....no thank you.

WHAT THE FUCK?

You have a ROOM! with INTERNET? IN IRAQ?! what kind of POG are you?

I cannot believe I bought this game from Target. Target return policy on PC games combined with a shitty game in the first place - not good.

I tried to like the single player, tried to at least like the game for the story just wasn't working and then I tried MP.. straight GARBAGE.

After years of waiting for a new title in the Wolfenstein series....

Picked up the game earlier today from Best Buy. Took a bit to install. SIngle player is "Fun" Really nice graphics and textures to it. But the AI seems a bit flaky to me. Enemies spawning from every direction. No AA ***BBBBOOOOO*** Now on to multiplayer....

It sucks. Laggy as hell. The maps have no depth to them. Aiming is a joke. No Fire support (Calling in airstrikes) The Panzerfaust (Hand held grenade/rocket launcher) is a mid-grade weapon at best. In RTCW:ET it will rip you a new one. The intensity of RTCW MP was really missing as well. Really faced paced fire fights on that old game.

I guess I really built my hopes up for this game after waiting 7 years for it to be released.

Not worth the $50 bucks.:(:mad:

According to posts on the wolf forum pc multi is limited to 6 v 6?! Is that right? If so, no wonder the multiplayer team got fired after release!

Its true, even the beta that was leaked had pretty much the same multiplayer. 12 player max like the consoles. Pure consolization in its highest form. Probably the most affected PC game ever affected by consoles yet. Can't really trust ID that much anymore. All their games have been tanking big time for awhile now. What happen to all our good game developers pre-2004. Wheres the talent.

Thats right though on what happened to the developers on the multiplayer side. They were fired. Raven did a pretty good job though on the single player but the multiplayer just tanked.

You know what all these wierd sucky games these day remind me of! It reminds me of the rap songs out these days that sound like love songs, club dancing crap songs. I still listen to old school too shorts, snoop, dr dre, ice cube, twinz, etc etc. Man i'm 32 years yound n miss the youngster days when songs and games where awesome.

Rap music is terrible.

Even old rap music.

But I agree games have gone downhill.

Gamespot gave the xbox 360 version a 7.5, and said its multiplayer is "solid" and gives "lasting value". No review for the PC or PS3 versions yet. It also said that Quake Wars has more depth though...

"Lasting value"...until MW2 and Halo: ODST come out.

WHAT THE FUCK?

You have a ROOM! with INTERNET? IN IRAQ?! what kind of POG are you?

This is Iraq 2009, not 2003/2004. Everyone has air conditioned rooms with internet, cable TV (AFN, but it's free), refrigerators, etc...
I'm the 25B (Computer guy) for my field artillery unit. So yeah, I'm a fobbit. I'm fine with that, though. My first tour in Iraq was as an Infantry Marine.

Back on topic....I still look forward to playing this game.

I just played through the first bit of the single player and I like it. Graphics when turned up look good and the missing options for AA is doesn't make a difference to me since for this game, so far, its not needed.

Though for COD4 & WAW, I feel its necessary.

I am really enjoying the game. For what it is, it's fun and mindless.

I wasn't expecting much from the game to start, but I do like it and enjoy just blasting crap.

Meh. I am playing the game (PC obviously) and consolitis is extremely evident. The story isn't bad, but it can't really carry the gameplay. And i so wanted to like this game. It's a sad year when i have no confidence in FO3, but it ends up being good, and i have high hopes for Wolfenstien, and it turns out to be poorly done. It's like bizzaro year for gaming. :D

Wow, times have changed. I was there for the invasion, and let me tell you, forget all that stuff, I was just glad to get a shower after the march up at a hotel in Baghdad while we sat around waiting to figure out what we were going to do next. Semper Fi!

RTCW on mp_base and beach was just perfect for 6vs6, heck even on 3on3 played just fine and you could find plenty of competition in clanbase back in the day, playercount does not equate good multiplayer, that said everyone agrees that wolf mp's does not feel like RTCW MP or ET at all, everyone says that it feels sluggish just like quake 4 without latest the patch + q4max or prey

On the other hand 360 players with their stupid 30fps cap and gay controllers ( i own a 360 arcade 1 month now so don't call me biased ) say that it feels pretty smooth :S anyway i'll wait for 2-3 more patches + promod before i buy the game, i don't even feel the need to pirate it

so what engine are they using? DOOM3/Quake 4?

because @ 1920x1080 v-sync on, game options maxed it doesn't even stress my system.

So this game is like whacking off with sand paper  I mean it's fun to rope one off and all, but this game just doesn't cut the mustard ?

WTF is up with id Software games lately, I mean seriously WTF id  The last wickedly awesome game they made was Quake ]l[, and Return to Wolf was pretty good too. Doom ]l[ was c+ game at best. Quake 4 blew, QuakeWars bit. And now this crap

Quake 4 blew me like the old lady donw the street, and that wasn't pretty. My fav Quake games were 1 and 2. Quake 2 is an all time classic, and I expected Q4 to be in the same vein, but Ravne made a vanilla and generic lame shooter in my opinion, easily forgotten. Then QuakeWars I was expecting a Battle Field 3 style game, but QW just totally fell short of most peoples expectations and sucked. And Doom ]l[, was ok at best, but totally not even close to the hype machine they sold it as.

And now we get this shitastic game, another run of the mill standard shooter.
Quake 4 = Raven product
This Wolfenstein release = Raven Product
ET QuakeWars = not ID Software either.

ID's last project was Doom3. Since then they've just been assisting other developers use their engine.

game runs on id tech 4 not unreal engine 3.0 you monkeys
7.3/10 at IGN. Sorry I got confused when I was talking about Gears of War above I thought this was an Unreal Engine game I forgot this was Tech 4.
Read the thread.

The screen shots above look ok but the jaggies always look worse in motion to me because of the "crawl." I dunno it might be nitpicking but it annoys me.

The developers seem to claim in that interview that it is a "tradeoff" and that the eye candy the deferred rendering brings to the table is worth missing out on anti-aliasing, but I think what they REALLY did was just bug out on out DirectX 10 support which would have enabled both at the same time. It is really pathetic that games like this are not using DirectX 10 at this point. Either the developers feel 1) pc gamers don't care or 2) the install base for DX10 is not big enough.

For the last time (though I'm sure this will have to be repeated over and over, since some people still don't get it)...DX10 (DX10.1) is irrelevant, because current consoles do NOT support it. And since the main SKU for game development is usually a console version (Xbox 360), there's really no need to include DX10 support.
Same thing will happen with DX11. Some games will come out, with a few DX11 features available, but they will still be basically DX9 games.

There is a dedicated thread for this but those guys deserved to be fired and never have jobs in videogaming again.

^^^ this is the truth. many RTCW maps were excellent for 6v6 matches.

Does anyone know how to change the game language to English?
For me it shows everything in Russian.. and i'm like WTF?

Im beginning to like the idea of people getting fired for shitty coding. First the ARMA 3 people and now these guys.

Wow times have changed. I was there for the original invasion. Hotel..what hotel??? We were happy to have a shower tent and a crapper that sat on the bottom of a cutout 55-gallon drum....

Haha can't wait for the Vietnam vet to come in and top me.... :)

We had embedded journalists that had booked rooms at the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad. I got 1 shower there before some nut with a bomb blew up people at the front door. Then we werent allowed near it anymore. I was with 3/4.

It's sad that pure console games being ported to the PC like Street Fighter IV and Devil May Cry 4 (yay Capcom) are more PC than the ones that should be 100% PC in the first place.

More consolised shite. You would think that with the success RTCW had on pc that id would be a bit more loyal to pc users, from what ive seen the sp looks "decent" at best depites the regen health bs, grenade indicators and medium res textures.

Yeah it wasnt id that made this but raven (who have not made anything worth a shit in years), adn some other gang of gibbering chimps made the mp, but you would think that id would have some say in the quality assurance.

This shits seriously getting old, everything on pc these days seems to be some half assed portover. Why cant they do things the other way around and make it for pc but change some of the fucntions for console, aka pc version has health packs, console version gets the wolverine health bullshit?

Basically correct.

Yeah it wasnt id that made this but raven (who have not made anything worth a shit in years),

And really, the more I thought about this the more I felt my enthusiasm for this title sink. This really should tell the entire tale for this game going into it and people should have their expectations way down.

I wonder if id was anywhere near this thing. Again, the fact that this bunch of "gibbering chimps" was rightfully fired the day this game came out should speak volumes to EVERYONE about the sad state the multiplayer of this game is, at least.

It's really getting old. It sure feels like PC gaming is getting swamped down over the top with this crap. Sure, we still get some nice stuff on occasion but I can't help but feel like there's a general downturn that's been happening.

No, I'm not saying "PC Gaming is dying/dead!" but if this goes on long enough...what's the point in me having a $2000 or so gaming PC when I get the same crap the consoles get, lumps and all, anyways for a hell of a lot less investment on the hardware end?

Well unfortunately I am one of the few who got caught up in a bug right off the bat. Installed fine, went to play single player and the monitor just seems to disconnect. Can hear sound just fine but just sqiggles on the monitor and my monitor telling me it lost sync. Went to the tech support and found several threads about it having trouble with all different types of monitors refresh rates.

Can play MP just fine, played for about 30 mins and didn't really think it was very good. The movement and shooting all feels ok but the graphics are very unpolished and the game had a pointless feel to it. I did well in the MP but just wasn't captured by it. I pretty much bought it for the SP so I am hoping someone can post a fix or perhaps they can patch it.

So far disappointed but still want to play SP.

QFT.

Even any technical issues aside, it's still a bland and generic shooter with no strong aesthetics, absolutely nothing new to offer and too stale to allow for it to be so linear without being a complete flop.

Linear is OK, when it's something like HL2 or the like, but this... while a lot of people disagreed with me at first, are now coming out of the woodwork expressing their disappointment in the game as a whole.

I think some of the younger generation think it's better than it is, due to not having enough experience with gaming, and FPS's in general. But if you've been a hardcore gamer, there's no possible way you could find many redeeming qualities in this game. Bland, done-to-death WWII setting (regarding of the supernatural element, it's still stale as hell), far too linear in gameplay, nothing truly innovative or interesting... and every review I've read just echoes my sentiments.

I'm so tired of the same old shit, it's not even funny. Personally, I cant wait for the likes of something such as Borderlands which, while some people "knock" due to the "unrealistic" graphics, at least has the balls to take things in a new direction and make gaming enjoyable again. Interesting yet detailed visuals, some RPG elements mixed into the FPS genre, open-world... at least it offers something new.

Even RAGE... damn, looks seriously intense, with amazing visuals and some new and interesting gameplay mechanics being used.

In a genre that's already difficult in which to be innovative, there are at least some devs out there starting to be more creative and push the limits.

Wolfenstein... an example of what needs to stop being developed.

I was really looking forward to this game but it was a huge let down.

My friend had it pre-ordered for the xBox so I went over to check it out before buying it for my PC.

When I got to his house I thought he was playing some CoD game that I hadn't seen before. It wasn't until he died that I realized it wasn't CoD. Guess it's my fault for not realizing the CoD engine was used for this game.

Now I like playing the CoD games but I am rather bored with them right now and at no point last night did I have the feeling I was playing anything but CoD.

I have many fond memory's of playing Wolfenstein back in the day but this game felt like a mod for CoD more then it's own game. Therefore I will not be buying it until it hits the bargain bin and I have nothing better to do.

So I went and bought the game last nite, despite all the hate (RTCW is my favorite game of all time) and so far I've enjoyed the single player, not the best in graphics and sound, but the hour or two that I've played I have liked.

Then i decided to try the multiplayer and to my surprise the server browser could not find a single server? I was on around 12 am PST and not one single server? I had disabled my firewall and have the 1.1 patch applied. What gives? Does everyone else see servers? I'll try again when i get home from work tonight but I am a bit worried.

I am willing to bet it would be much better on PC. Comparing a watered down console version to the full PC version doesn't seem like a good comparison... I will be picking up Wolfenstein on lunch, or after I leave the office.:D For PC of course. Personally, I don't give about the graphics, or the way it "looks" I base my opinions on the actual game-play.

Check their website forums. There are a few threads there about this. I didn't read them specifically because I didn't have this problem but hopefully you can find a fix there.

Also when you click "find servers" and "refresh list" wait for a minute or 2, it seems to take a while to load up for me.

Hey hey dont lump SF4 with all the shitty console ports. The arcade box runs Win XP on an intel chip! Granted it was designed for a stick, but its a fighter game.

You can tell Wolf was designed for a controller. You only spend a minute of your time in the menu system but damn its annoying. The other technical complaints about AA and other missing standard features are what they are. I havent touched Multi and didnt plan on it, I didnt even install Punkbuster. So I will talk about single player, the gameplay and feel.

The game has a strong Call of Duty feel. No health, just that bloody mess in your vision that auto-fades away (weak!). Auto-spawning enemies (weak!). Not a good start, copying the worst of what I hate about CoD.

I did enjoy the eastern-European resistance feel. Reminds me of that South Park movie character, The Mole, that french kid who hated life. All the NPCs in this game are The Mole. Someone should make a French Resistance game, that could actually be good.

Gunplay...killing nazis in the streets is satisfying, plenty of bloody throat shots and blood-spraying headshots. Mmm, violence. The Latin-chanting sorcerer nazis or whatever the hell are awesome. The traps remind me of RTCW, though nothing yet approaches the coolness of the dig site in that first game, with the skeletons chopping up nazis. You find gold throughout the game, just like previous Wolfs, but now you can spend it on upgrades. The game has an upgrade store for your weapons and magical powers, very nice.

Yes, magical powers. The Veil mechanic. Its sort of like playing a Jedi game or Max Paine, with Bullet Time/Force Speed and other oddball abilities. It also lets you play in two different versions of the world, the last game I played like that was Legacy of Kain:Soul Reaver. The spirit world may let you walk through a wall thats solid in the real world. While in the spirit side you can still see and shoot the nazis (you see them better, like night vision). Weird.

In closing, id should be more careful with its intellectual property. Wolfenstein is popular and nostalgic IP that could still make a lot of money if implemented correctly. You dont see Blizzard letting any idiots handle the Warcraft or Diablo properties (and when they did - Starcraft Ghost - it was canceled).
