the bootlist thing (cant remember name - f12 on startup) of my pc pics up 1 of 2 HDD's. the first being the one with the with the OS on it, it posts fine but doesn't pick up the first HDD.

so as it picks up the second HDD i switch the first and second cables around. still only the second is picked up, so, must be the first HDD which is buggered yes?

no.

It works and boots fine in my bros PC and his in mine.

so my pc works fine.
the HDD works fine.
why is there a problem?

any ideas would be greatly apprecated
TIA :D

Make sure that your boot drive is the first drive listed in the boot order.

its not there to select..
thanks though, but it does give me an idea

great. now its not posting at all. and on the very rare occasion it does i get one long continous buzz.

My new HDD came yesterday work fine, installed OS restarted numerous times as you do and turned off for the night, today i turned it on and it did post, after numerous attempts and even disconnecting all HDD's i got it to post so i turned it off plugged in HDD and on again.
nothing

lights, fans all the normal noises but no startup beep and not picture on screen,
same as before, so i reset the cmos got it past post and the cmos asks me what to load (last good, >5 boot etc. ) i select defult.

it boots to pic and gives me that buzz, after that sometimes it gets that far often it doesn't.

any ideas?

did you mean your new hard drive isn't even booting now? maybe a bad power supply? or a buggy bios, are there any updates you can flash?

no its sata

you dont need a HDD to boot into the bios right?
i unplugged them all, at the mo im just trying to get into the bios. how do you flash the bios without the PC posting? ive never dont it before

it doesn't get further than the MB manufacturer screen so no. :(
just waiting for my bro to finishs on his machine so can canablaise parts from it to see its its the MB or CPU buggering up

my PSU made my bros pc mess up, ie only posting a thrd of the time and his worked in mine.
