I have 3 goals.

1. Wireless in my bedroom so the PC and Stereo can be moved around within a single room without wires.

2. Wireless on the patio about 20-25ft away with 2.5 walls.. bedroom wall.. kitchen wall with fridge against it.. then the exterior wall with 50% patio glass.. 30% wall 20% kitchen window. I expect signal to be pretty good considering other tests Ive done.. such as my android phone using unified remote to my USB adapter on the PC works great without any router in-between.
3. Wireless that is easy to move between the bedroom and the patio since I only intend the use the patio wireless on an as needed basis.



I'm considering buying one of the Astro 5.8 wireless mixamps
for it's wireless capabilities.. to be used with a receiver on the other end not really headphones.

I like the idea that the Astro 5.8 has great sound quality for being a wireless unit and it has multiple inputs/outputs for various scenarious..

I don't really like the optimal 20-25ft range.. but thats still ideal for being what it is.. it very well may be plenty for me but what are my other options is what I'm curious to know

Can anyone suggest other methods or devices that may have slipped by me (because I have searched and googled and found some but sometimes people suggest awesome stuff I've overlooked)?

So please offer your input in regards to wireless audio hardware.. Thanks.

My audio system is far from high-end.. but something like this I am willing to "get what I pay for"

PC --> Line-Out to Vintage Marantz --> 2 Floor Speakers.

Marantz ---> RCA out to RCA input on " Your average everyday 80w RMS Total power Mini-HiFi shelf system"

My motherboard does have HDMI and Optical outputs but as you see I don't have systems to really show much benefit.. however I am dead set on buying a Denon 2Ch Stereo Receiver soon so who knows what will happen. To be honest though, beneficially noticeable or not I would probably use the optical output of my motherboard if I could.. I used to have a decent headphone amp back in the day that had XLR and optical and I def noticed a difference in sound stage and tonal quality.. so having the option to use optical would be nice.

The more I think about this the more I think the Astro 5.8 is friggin perfect but half of me wants to know if there is another piece of hardware that would be essentially the same, with more options/range or just as good yet cheaper... so please share if you have experience with wireless audio and viable solutions.

You might want to look into Audioengine, I know they have wireless devices but I can't really pinpoint a model because I've never tried.
 
I use RocketFish RF-RBUSB wireless units. I have it transmitting through one wall and 20ft distance. It accepts line level inputs or USB. RocketFish also has other wireless audio products that connect to this hub unit.
 
The Astro is exactly what you need. ;)

Remember its mainly a headphone amp too... so you're good headphones will sound amazing.
 
Hes not using it with headphones tho... I would think a Wifi based solution could perform better or be more flexible depending on where his router is located relative to all the other spots he named.
 
Okay, can you recommend any? Cause if not this wireless headphone amp will be perfect as well, it will provide uninterrupted HiFi audio to the headphone jack on the amp, and he can connect that where ever he wants with the right cables. You can get a 3.5mm to RCA output cable and then plug it into a receiver to do surround sound if you wanted. also as an added bonus the receiver will have its own power outlets so you can plug in a mini-usb charger into the headphone amp to make sure it will never die, so you can have wireless audio whenever. Just a thought... It definitely can be done with a Mix-amp.
 
Is it even still available tho? It's not listed on their site and shows up as unavailable on Amazon? How much is it? Sonos solutions are like $300+ per unit but they're very well integrated and eliminates the need for you to move a PC around, granted it all depends on wireless connectivity to the router being available which is why I asked about that but the OP poof. Logitech Squeezeboxes are cheaper.

To be perfectly honest, for the occasional BBQ in the patio I'd just use a $40 Bluetooth adapter plus a phone or tablet and whatever speakers... It's just gonna be background music anyway, it's not like you're gonna notice a difference in open air while not even listening from an optimal position... Way cheaper and less of a hassle, same range.
