Does the wireless adapter for XBONE controller work with PC running windows 7?
I am wondering if I should purchase the wireless adapter or just buy a controller with a cable.

I am purchasing Steam Link and would like to play with an Xbox One controller wirelessly. However, I only have Windows 7 as my main windows and the description of the wireless adapter mentions Windows 10 only.

Any experiences with the 25 bucks dongle?

Hit me so I can put in my order.

As far as I know only Win 10 supports the wireless adapter.

I am loving the adapter, been using it to play Arkham knight / Fallout 4.
pretty cool to be able to plug in headsets directly to the controller and chill... although I use my headset directly from my pc... so the options is there with the v2 controller or with the audio adapter for the controller.

as for windows 10. get Start10 and be done with it :p

Nope, the wireless adapter only works in Windows 10. If wireless is important, the 360 wireless adapter will work just fine. If you want the X1 controller, you'll have to have it plugged in.

Only works in Windows 10, but it does work great. Been using one for 2 weeks and it's great for everything from Fallout to more precision games like Street Fighter.
I don't know if it works any better than the 360 controller, so if you're sticking with Windows 7, that controller should still work 100% fine.

Well glad I didn't waste money then. I am not switching to Windows 10 just to use a controller. Also I still prefer the ergonomics of x360 over rough edges of Xbone controller.

Thanks for saving me 80 bucks.

The newest Xbox wireless controller no idea but I use a wireless 360 controller with win7 without issue. Is there really any difference between controllers?

The triggers and d-pad are a lot better, but everything else is worse in my opinion. I'm with KickAssCop, preferring the ergonomic design of the 360 controller.

They have a slightly different grip. The triggers and analogs have a different feel. I prefer the Xbox One's analog stick and triggers, but prefer the grip and bumpers from the 360 controller. In terms of overall functionality, they're 95% the same.

The One controller is much better than the 360 controller. The bumbers and D-pad alone make it a better buy, let alone the 3,5mm headset jack built into the controller that works in win....wirelessly.

It ran its course but it is time for the 360 pad to go to pasture.

Same aside from the D-Pad the Xbone is terrible ergonomically. I honestly got a cramp in my hand/wrist after playing Halo 5 for 2 hours for the first time in controller gaming history. 360 > PS4 > Wii U Pro > Xbone

To me, the Xbox One controller is better if you're playing a very heated game with a tight grip. For instance, something like Call of Duty, Halo, Street Fighter, or Need for Speed.
However for something leisurely and slower like Fallout or GTA, I like the 360 controller better. The edges are smoother, so it's more comfortable with a loose grip.
If someone made an Xbox One controller with the 360's smooth edges it would be just about perfect.

I like my xbone controller, but I cannot get rumble/vibration...whatever the hell you call it, to work with the wireless adapter. I've tried uninstalling the device and reinstalling, updating the drivers, no dice. Works fine as long as I've got it plugged in via USB, but I hate wires, that's why I bought a wireless adapter. Really frustrating, I've been waiting for a year for this adapter to come out.

That's really odd. Did you download the Win 10 app in the store and update the firmware? No clue if that makes a difference, but wireless rumble should work fine.

just BUY the wireless XBOX One controller if you can it comes with a usb wire soo later on if you decide to get the wireless adapter youll be ready for it later on!
i use 2 WIRELESS XBONE controllers for my PC's but i cant afford the adapter yet maybe santa will bring me it this year :D LOL so i just use it connected to the cord i just leave out the battery pack till i get the wireless adapter controller works with or with out the battery pack !! in WINDOWS just need the windows driver from micro$oft and wireless adapter to go wireless it works FINE wired !!!

I actually ptefer the xbox one controller to the 360 controller. It feels much better in my hand.

Has anyone used the XBox One controller with Win7 firsthand? I know they recently announced support, but am curious if anyone has found it reliable.

How does this work if I have my PC and X1 in the same room? Currently, when I turn on my X1 controller the X1 console turns on. So if I turn on the controller to use with my PC then my console will turn on also?

If it works anything like other controllers, you pair it either to the PC or the X1. The console will only turn on if it's paired with it.

yes there s a connect button on the side of the usb xbox one wireless adaptor for the PC press that then pres the white X on the controller to sync it up or pair it soo it will detect it and work after the usb adaptor downloads the drivers it needs from microsoft it self :D

You can go back and forth between your PC and Xbox One (or 360 for that matter) using the same controller. You just need to re-sync it when going back and forth.
