Just curious...I just upgraded to an X2 4400+ and just replaced my FX 55 in my system. Everything seems to be running fine. Just wondered if it is necessary to have to do a compete reinstall of Windows XP?

Nope should not have to. If you changed your motherboard then you might have to.

It depends on if XP is correctly identifying the dual core processor. If it's not, a rebuild may be in order.

does task manager show 2 cpus. if not you need to repair your install from the cd. if XP was smart enough to change your cpu driver and shows 2 cpus your all good.

Besides Task Manager, you can go to Device Manager and check under the "Computer" setting to see if it is showing ACPI Multiprocessor PC. I would think that it would identify the dual core setup as just normal multiprocessor. It should also show two processors under the "Processors" tree.
