Windows Vista Password Bypass....Help Needed.

Hey guys whats up? Well my dad reset the password on his laptop yesterday and he forgot what he changed it to. I know that there are ways to bypass the password and go straight into windows but it has been years since I have messed with any of that stuff. So what is a good program or way to bypass that so he can get into windows vista and change his password back. He lives a few states away from me so the easier it is the better. He has access to another computer and he has a flash drive, a cd burner, but no floppy drive. Thx guys.
 
I've used the utility found here - http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm to reset a password. I believe it's also included in one version of the ultimate boot disc found here - http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/.

I've used them many times with XP when removing a system from a domain before verifying the local admin password but I have no clue if it works in Vista. If the tool doesn't work you might be able to use a system restore point via the Vista install DVD and restore to a time before the password was reset.
 
he has windows vista and he said that he went to the website read everything and followed what it says to do but its still not working. do you guys know of one that works on vista that is easy to use? thx for the help.
 
Why don't you just boot into safe mode and access his account through the Administrator account? If you can't do this, you might have to do a repair install, make a new account (which will have admin rights by default), log in, and then restore his profile/account.

It says the offline password and registry tool should work in Vista. Make sure when using the tool that he is actually writing the changes to disc, as it will let you make the changes and then asks if you want to write, with the default being set to 'no'. It's a little complicated though, but is really the only option. They don't make password recovery tools with a simple 2 button gui.

It works perfect in Vista. And this is by FAR the best choice.

Make sure he resets the password to "blank" and doesn't try to set it to something new. 100% chance this will work unless he is using drive encryption.

Based on your post, it does not sound like he burned the image to a CD, properly booted from the CD and followed the prompt. You should talk to him on the phone while he does this to walk him through it.
