Head on over to Engadget for complete, up to the minute coverage of the Windows Phone 7 launch event. They have lots of pretty pictures, commentary and all that stuff. Here is the obligatory picture of Steve Ballmer in motion.

I'm looking forward to seeing Windows Phone 7, I've been playing with WP7 themes on my HD2 and I'd like to try the real deal. I'm looking forward to Zune and Xbox Live intergration hopefully an official rom will come out for the HD2 otherwise I'll have to wait for the cooks over at XDA.

Definitely a nice looking phone OS. It may be late to the game but not too late. Be interesting to see how it gets adapted (if it does at all). But its definitely a nice and clean UI.

As long as android phones remain somewhat open and modifiable, I don't see how a new upstart will have a chance.

Ad as I hear it, Microsoft has WP7 locked down like a crazed axe murderer.

I for one am glad that I have to wait until next November 2011 to get a new phone. I feel that the "kinks" and "Quirks" will be worked out if I am still interested in a win7 phone. If the marketplace has decent apps and is not crushed by IPHONE 4b or any other Android phones I will be thrilled. Only time will tell..

The Optimus 7 looks solid, though I can't say the same for the HD7.

I get the feeling noone gives a crap about WP7.

Not around here but looking around the web I'd say there's good interest in this device, it's definitely different compared to the iPhone and Android devices and it does a lot of things well. We'll see what happens starting at the end month. I'm getting one but I'm currently on Verizon and Sprint so I'll probably wait for the HTC 7 Pro on Sprint.

My only real interest at this point is the Xbox Live integration.

I don't care about fancy screen transitions if I have to wait for them to finish before moving along.

They did exactly as I had hoped. They basically strapped the Zune HD interface on to a phone. Its very clean, very responsive, and very solid for being a A/V platform.

I can't see this being bad for consumers, more choices is always awesome.

I want to see the Dell offering though, that was the one that made me itch with excitement

I never liked the Zune UI (Had the original, and the 80, and neither did anything for me) so I don't really like this phone's UI either. Just happy to have another competitor to the iphone/android domination market.

I just really like my iPhone, I suppose.

I keep hearing complaints about the animations slowing down the phone and that's simply not true. WP7 is very fast and the reason for the animations is to show that the phone is "doing something" instead of it looking like the phone is lagging while waiting for an app to load. It's kind of like a fancy wait cursor. They could remove the animations and it would still take just as long for you to go from one screen to the next.

Microsoft is stressing to all of their developers to make sure their app never looks like its hung up or frozen while doing a background task. Microsoft will reject any app into the marketplace that doesn't provide constant visual feedback when it's doing a background task or loading.

I hope it becomes a competitive OS, but like everyone has said. They are playing catch up. Unfortunately, I look at new phones based on ease of integration within my house's automation and future automation. If an OS is not accepted by home automation companies then it's useless to me. Very sad on my part considering how many great products are available.

Looking at the slides, it looks like they went for super-friendly, super-user-intutitive and focused mostly on what the average person uses their phone for ...ie facebooking/twittering/text messaging/a scheduling device.

Not bad, not bad at all...
