I'm ordering parts tonight to put together a gaming Rig and at first I was going to order the HP/Acer Micro Server to deal with stuff like backup, distribute files etc.

My question is would it be a stupid idea to put windows home server on my gaming rig and just buy more 1TB drives to put into the same desktop? I'm new to servers but I've always wanted to build and use one. Can I kill two birds with one stone?

I wouldn't try gaming on whs. Plus turning off your gaming machine when not use in favor of the low powered whs will save a small fortune in power.

Yes it is a bad idea to combine WHS and your gaming rig together. Especially considering that occasionally, some drivers won't install at all on WHS, drivers that might be needed for gaming. Then there's the performance issues, usage issues, etc

Keep the two separate.
