Everytime i disable the windows file protection...when i reboot it just my wallpaper and nothing else. Nothing loads but the mouse cursor moves. The only way i got to type this thread was to go into task manager and end the explorer.exe and re run it. Is there any way around that everytime i reboot my computer.

Why would you want to disable it? Tell us what you're trying to accomplish and we might be able to better help you.

I agree, there's no reason why you should be disabling windows file protection. As F1xxer said, what's the purpose of disabling it, and I'm sure we can find a better way.

everytime i install a program the WFP comes up. Then i enter the cd and it reads it and when i perform a tast it pops up again. This happens with firefox....aim.....photoshop. btw, i formatted 5x with same results.

Did you happen to make your XP disc with Nlite?

Unfortunately, this is a problem when using nLite. I think it has to do when you remove things from the OS that you probably won't ever use. For some reason Windows throws a fit about that. The last nLite CD I made, I don't think I removed anything and just slipstreamed SP2 and some drivers into it. I didn't have any trouble like I had before with Windows File Protection. I'm pretty sure I left that enabled, also. If I remember correctly, you can disable the file protection when making the nLite disc but I'm not sure. I would check since I need to make a new disc, but my main system is out for the count for a long time and all my data is on the drives in it. And I have no real way to get the drives into this system. Plus, I have no desire to put nLite on this POS of a computer. To actually make an image with it would probably take half the day. And I'm not joking.

That's what I avoid Nlite, and never recommend it to anyone. The OP borked something when making the disc. I slipstream SP2 into any discs using Autostreamer, and leave it at that.

I have no trouble slipstreaming SP2 or adding drivers to it. It's just when I have removed files from the installation that I ever had any trouble. nLite works fine for me and probably anyone else as long as nothing is removed.
