Windows boot with SSD question

I recently bought a M4 Crucial SSD. I installed the SSD, it comes up as New Volume, while my C drive(HDD) comes up as Local Disk. Now my question is, does the primary OS on a system have to be the C drive? I installed Win7 on the SSD without problems, but when I boot my pc I get the boot manager to choose between the Win7 on the SSD and Win7 on the HDD. I don't want that to happen, I bought the SSD to have Windows on it. Can I just format the HDD? Will that wipe out Win7 on my hard drive and make my SSD the only boot option?
 
What you could do is reach in your pc and unplug the hdd. Then reboot it and see what it does.

If that works fine then plug it back in then once booted on the ssd format the hdd.
 
Even if you keep both drives hooked up like you do now you should be able to go into the bio and choose the ssd as first boot option.

You will want to reformat the hhd if you are using it for storage. No use having an OS on it if you're not using it to boot.

And no the drive the OS is on doesn't have to be C. You can name it anything.

Back in the day the system would boot in alphabetical. A, B, then C.
 
Go to msconfig.exe and under the boot tab, just delete the entry for the HDD.
 
I disconnected the hdd, and see what would happen with just the ssd, windows didn't boot from ssd unfortunatly. I was able to install it again with the windows dvd, then connected the hdd and formatted it. Now the ssd is the C drive. :)

Yea maybe what you did was the long road but what the heck, it's done at least.

you ought to see my disaster. Somehow when I installed windows I got a C and an H on the same drive lol. The H drive is 99 meg and 70 are used. I have no idea why it divided it but it works so who cares.

You probably assigned a drive letter to the system reserved partition. Hence, the C and H on the same drive.

Simple SSD "101", you never install an SSD with another drive connected.
 
I now wonder if he changed the hard drive controller in the bios to AHCI before installing the ssd.
 
i was having the same problem but it was automatically resolved when i wake up next morning,
