Windows 7 Upgrade Now Available $49.99 / $99.99 6/26/09-7/11/09

This now has me curious. It's my understanding that the upgrades will invalidate the CD keys so that they can't be activated. The thing is, how does it affect upgrades from Windows 2000? They don't activate like XP and onward do. So does it actually affect it from working like normal? Do Windows Updates check the installation key or anything like that now?

Thanks for posting that Q&A w/ MS, xXaNaXx. I'll be going from 32-bit Vista Home Basic to 64-bit 7 Home Premium. I was going to do a clean installation anyway, so the fact that it's not an option but a requirement doesn't really faze me.
