Windows 7 icons in taskbar

I would say it is also wrong (not by much) on the desktop in my sig especially if you're mousing over to bring the thumbnails up and then scanning them to find the one you want.

*First sentence of yours seemed to make more sense here.

Everything you said is fine with me - it all boils down to personal taste. As for the quoted portion - if it takes much longer than a second for your thumbnails to come up, then you should probably get your hardware checked. I think what I appreciate about the aero peek feature is that I don't even have to really look for anything - I slide the cursor over the thumbs and the corresponding window fades into view immediately, getting rid of all other windows. It's just way more convenient to me.

But...to each their own.

I would have to do a video capture to tell how long it is but it definitely takes about a second for each animation to both get triggered and act. It's definitely not a long time, or even much more than a second, but definitely not a tiny fraction of a second either. The difference between my desktop and netbook seems to be in how long it takes for the fade-in animation to occur once it is triggered.

I am glad we can finally see eye to eye on the last part.

I guess it just varies from hardware to hardware and opinion to opinion. The nice thing, though, is that if someone doesn't like the new features they can tweak them to their liking or just turn them off altogether.

I just feel a lot of these threads don't give the features a fair shake. Sure I'll agree it comes down to user preference in the end but you should at least give the new way a try before decrying the fact that some of the old ways aren't available by default. There's been a few people in this thread already who have discovered things about the new way that they didn't know were available and suddenly made sense to them. The hover delay is no big deal for me since for me it's all about the click count what with repetitive stress on joints and such so as long as I don't have to click I'm fine with a second delay on hovering. Thumbnails have the names above them so you can tell them appart that way too. The task bar was pretty much designed to be used with default settings, you're trying to do some stuff the old way with some things the new way and that seems to be where the majority of your complaints stem from. If you like the vista/XP way, turn off pinning and turn on the quick launch bar, if you want to try the new way disable names and re-enable grouping, I can see how what you're trying to do would be annoying at best

I don't know what exactly you missed or didn't read, but what I did tries (in my opinion of course) to combine the best of the two UIs into something that is better overall then either of the two in their basic form.

Newer is not necessarily better (ribbon interface anyone?), and there are always improvements that could be made to any system.

the only icons i have left in my quick launch are direct drive/partition shortcuts (and links to certain folders)

i was able to add explorer to the supertaskbar, and then drag my drives there (so i can right click the explorer icon on the superbar, and choose any of my drives).

my issue - when i just left-click the explorer shortcut on the superbar, it opens my user director / my documents.

how do i get this to go to "my computer" root - where it lists all of my drives/cdroms, etc...i hate how it goes straight to my documents folder, which i never use.

ive tried right clicking/properties on the shortcut, but i dont see anywhere where it shows that path for a target

Right click the icon, brings up jumplist
right click "Windows Explorer", brings up its menu
Click "properties"
Target defaults to %windir%\explorer.exe
Change it to %windir%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Not sure if there's a better way, but that is what I do >.>

I don't mind the Taskbar in Windows 7. What I wish could happen is to be able to adjust what's on the left hand size when opening a folder. Most of that stuff in there is junk to me, wish I could fine tune what's in there a bit.

Could you explain more?
