Windows 10 Tip: Shut down OneDrive Completely

Isn't DX12 supposed to run work with older hardware? I'd swear that was in a linked article a year or 2 ago.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it will run on most cards that can do DX11, but it will ONLY run on Windows 10. It wasn't the hardware that stunted DX10 adoption, it was tying it to Vista while most people stayed on XP for years until 7 finally making more market penetration.

It was a free OS. If someone didn't upgrade, it's their fault. It's not like you could upgrade and go back immediately. If this was my product, I'd do the same thing. Why support 2 or 3 operating systems when you can support one and that one was offered to end users for free for a year (technically it's still free if you lie).

You're missing the point. There are reasons to stay off Windows 10, free or not (see my post at the bottom of the last page). By tying DX12 to Win10, it fragments the market. Developers don't care whose fault it is, they care that only 40% of steam users are on Windows 10, so there's no way in hell they're making DX12 exclusive games anytime soon, because that's way too many lost sales. This is why I wish MS didn't run the OS for gaming, because you have conflicts of interest like this. Developers and gamers want a 3D API to run on as many systems as possible. MS wants to get everyone onboard Windows 10, regardless of how long it slows new DirectX adoption. This is why it was basically 9 years before games required anything newer than DirectX 9.

Except you don't...many of these clickbait articles detail some far more complicated way to perform a simple task that is really unnecessary. See my post above.

It's cool to hate on Windows 10 right now for some reason. *shrug*

it always cool to hate on windows. XP was shit and you should have stuck with 2000 as xp was a fisher price / Tonka toy pos child's OS. Vista was a piece of shit because old 15 year old hardware didn't work due to lack of drivers by hardware makers so you should stay with XP. Windows 7 was a piece of shit and you should stay with your old OS. Windows 8 was a piece of shit....

That's only true of today. The point of forced updates is they can turn things back on that you already turned off or remove options entirely, so you can never say with certainty that however you configure it will always stay that way (unless you have enterprise edition). If you honestly don't understand the Windows 10 hostility, I saw a great post from another thread on the topic that really boils it all down:

it really comes down to the 95% of users vs the 5%. Most people are idiots and will go years without installing upgrades, they will run no AV software and will click on every random link they receive or see in a pop up. So you have to save those people from their selves. Which the only way to do that is try to force the OS to just keep itself up to date to ensure everyone is full patch instead of relying on them to make choices in the mater. It is sad that is the way it has to go to fix the issue.

the problem is that with these new versions of DX they require features not in the old OS so they can't just magically make DX12 fully work with some rewrite of the older OS. Same as for DX 10 in Vista. And they are not going to want to do a major rewrite of an older OS to add in features that don't exist. Red Hat 7 has features that 6 doesn't have and they aren't going back to add those to 6. Just like Apple releases new OS changes as new versions.

I had put this disabling of OneDrive on the back burner, but during a gaming session last night a One Drive warning dialogue stole focus from my game, pulling me out to the desktop to tell me that I needed to update Once Drive if I wanted to continue using it (I've never used One Drive, and I have told the client to not start on boot)

I'll be looking at this after work today, as this pissed me off.

I installed windows 10 then go to OD, click do not start up then exit. It hasn't bothered me since. Nothing that I know of that OD is working in the background. Everything that I know of has been disabled except for a few minor info that feeds back to MS. Frankly, I am not sure what they do with this info. It is a bunch of useless info on what items being used on MS software. Everything is moving towards Big Government and the Corporations are pushing it right along. Until Americans wake up and take control back, we all have this to look forward too. Trust me, uncle sam collects far more info on every American.. and if you knew what it was....you would have a shit storm.
