Hello Everyone,

I have a PC running Windows 10 Pro. This PC was earlier running Windows 7 PRO (long time back) and was upgraded to Windows 10 when Microsoft gave option of upgrading to 10 for FREE. Since last several years windows 10 pro has been running OK.

I wish to dispose this PC so I bought another PC and installed Windows 10 PRO. Now since my windows 10 license is associated with my Microsoft Account, I tried to activate Windows on my new pc. However activation failed (no error code, it just said cannot activate). When I tried to activate (I signed in to the Microsoft Account and) it is showing my my old pc and there is a tick mark Activate.

What can I do to activate in my new pc ? Since the windows is not showing any product key it can only be activated through by signing in through Microsoft account. I did see 1 option in web browser when I signed to my microsoft account. It shows my old pc info and there was an option Remove PC. Should I do that ?.

Remove your PC
Once you remove your PC:

  • You won't see it here anymore
  • MyName-PC
    To be filled by O.E.M.

What should I do ?

Regards,
GR

Free Windows 10 is not transferable to a new machine.
Your going to have to purchase a new Win 10 license.
