When trying to install Windows 7 from a burnt DVD (verified when it was burnt), the system will just hang at the "Starting Windows Setup" or whatever it is after it asks if you want to install windows or repair your system. It just sits there. I get the 3-sec interval HDD light, and no activity from the DVD drive. Any ideas?

I've got a Q9450, GB P35-DS3L and 6GB of RAM (everything is at stock speeds).

A buddy of mine has had the same issue with every build on Windows 7 using a GB S3 motherboard (965). Updated BIOS, etc. No matter what he cannot get Window 7 to install and the same thing happens you report.

Wish I knew... maybe someone else will have a fix.

Try with one stick of RAM in. Burn the DVD again. Install from a USB stick. In that order.

I wanted to try the USB drive, but I cant figure out how to get an ISO onto my USB drive from OSX. Copying the files directly didn't work. Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll let you know...

I had similar problems when i installed win7 on my PC. I just played my PS3 and occasionally turned around to check it. It took maybe 4 or 5 minutes to go to the next step.

He tried from USB and DVD. Also allowing the install to sit overnight it never goes any further like the OP said.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It looks like it was on its way out - now it wont get past the BIOS, regardless of what RAM I install. It just locks up at the memory test. I'm going to let it (and me) cool down overnight and try again tomorrow after work.

If I cant get it working tomorrow night, I guess I'm forced into a Core i7 upgrade (it could be the mobo, proc, RAM and I don't have the patience to test them all separately).

It hangs up for me too.... but it takes 10 minutes to start working and continue install.

Anyone else have issues with a DS3 or S3 that might offer anymore assistance. My buddy is still having problems where the install just sits there forever (overnight).

Only issue was the hangup (lasts no more than 10 minutes). After that, installed perfectly. I'm using the GA-P965-DS3 BTW. Rest of specs in sig.

Maybe try different DVD burner?

well he tried an install from DVD and from USB Thumdrive - so that would rule out a bad disk or drive.

the beta version build 7000 took me a while to install like 10mins waiting before it finally started to install. but 7100 build installed under 15mins in total. gigabyte ga 965p dq6 v.01.

Keep in mind when I tell you this hangs... he's let it sit overnight... this isn't a matter of 15 - 20, even 40 minutes. It has been left at that screen for 8 - 10 hours!!

All beta builds up till now and RC 7100. He has no problems installing XP.

Win 7 is still being tested so just move on to something else while the MS monkeys deal with the bugs.

My laptop (ASUS A8Js) does the same thing... get to the "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" and then just reboots endlessly to the bios screen. Very frustrating.
On another note, I have the beta on a seperate HD on my office machine and I want to install the RC but I have a folder with about 50GB of video/TV shows that I want to keep. Will it format the whole drive and wipeout that folder or just reinstall win 7?
