Win2000 Pro Keyboard Error

This may be quite a boring topic, but I'm stuck...so here goes:

OS = Win2000 Pro
Problem: It will let you log into the LAN but once the OS comes up completely, keyboard just craps out except function keys and Windows key. The odd thing is, that I can't type anything for example in notepad, but if I hit Ctrl-A, it works fine, but apparently the letter keys don't work by themselves.

Attempted fixes:
New keyboard --> Nothing
Update drivers --> Nothing
Beating keyboard senseless --> Nothing (except a headache from the noise)

Does anyone have any ideas what else to check ? Its not a huge issue at the moment, but a little assistance would be great.

Thank you,
Murph

Update: If it helps, it will boot into safe mode into DOS...any new ideas ?

Have you tried switching from a PS/2 keyboard to a USB one, or vice-versa?

No, good point. Now I need to track one down. I only have a few floating around company somewhere.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

I think as long as you can get hold of a PS/2->USB adaptor, you should be set.

Maybe the keyboard PS/2 port on the mobo is shot.
