Just wondering if any of you guys have similar set ups and were able to play Oblivion OK.

PC specs are in sig.

But since I have a lot of time, I have..

P4 northwood 2.8ghz (can't OC, shitty mobo)
2x512 G. Skill DDR-400 @ 2.5-3-3-6(stock).
eVga 660GT AGP8x stock timings, can bump it up a little bit.

Thanks :)

I have 1 GB memory more than you, but I think Oblivion uses about 1.4 GB at the highest I have seen it. I'm running a 9800 Pro compared to your 6600GT, so I'm sure you'll be better off than me. I run it fine on the defaults (which aren't THAT bad)

I have nothing to add really just that it's 0122hrs and at work and for some reason the title of thread made me burst out laughing. :D

oblivion raped many machines (including mine),
but ive seen it run on many low end pc's
like my bro's for example:
9600pro, 512 pc133 sdram, p3 1.34 ghz, @ 800x600 with most details almost all the way down, and thats with 2xAA (major tweaking)
so you are fine.

i run 1680x 1050 res @ 0xAA, 8xAF, HDR on, details maxed and it lags like hell in some situations like inside the oblivion gates, some outside when there's a lot of trees, sometimes on horse, fighting outside, it gets bad sometimes...inside it's fine, dungeons etc are very fast

I think it's the resolution that's keeping me back, maybe I need another 7800gtx to SLI my system :(

this game can rape your system no joke ;)

It's probably the HDR that is killing you.

I have a similar system, swap out p4 for a64 2800. I can run oblivion 1024x768, bloom on, no aa, med textures, high indoor shadows, med outdoor shadows, distance sliders about half(less for grass) and it only slows down when theres a lot of npcs on screen.

Well honestly that game crashed so much I just stopped, lots of bugs I think... A few that just get it to the point where you have to load back (if you have a lot of back saves, which I didn't so I was mad)

if you save then turn your pc off while the game engine is still running, it will have a corrupt save file, but you can almost always load an earlier game and then load the corrupt one and it may get you back to where u were (keword MAY)

plus a new patch is comming out soon, so fixes may be in.

thanks for the info, haven't tried the ops in that guide yet but will this weekend

Oblivion never crashes during my gameplay, there is something wrong with your computers.

i have 3500+ w/ 1gb of ram and 9800 pro... i run at medium 1024x768... runs nice for me :)

oblivion doesnt like it when you OC your vid card, unless u can get it 100% stable... it will crash.

Mine was 100% stable on every OTHER game. Oh well.

Yep, it will leave your poor computer scarred for life.

:p

Nah, the other guys are correct, it'll be fine.
