Will I need a new PS?

Here is what my new setup is going to be:

- DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS
- E4600 Core 2 Duo
- 4GB G.Skill DDR2 800
- eVGA 8600GT
- X-Fi XtremeMusic
- 2 x 500GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD
- DVD Burner
- 3 x 120mm Thermaltake fan

My current PS is Thermaltake TR2 430W. From the PS calculators I've used, I shouldn't need much more wattage, but I know the amps and single rail on the TR2 are weak. Do you guys think I need to upgrade? If I do, will this PS do the job?

Also one last random question - do those PS's with the fan on the top mount in cases that still have the PS on top? Can I just flip them over?

I would get a new PSU in your position. Although in theory a 430W PSU would be more than enough for your system, that Thermaltake is not a particularly good unit. The 450VX on the other hand is an excellent PSU and will be able to handle your system without any problems.

Actually those PSUs with the "fan on top" are actually PSUs with the fan on the bottom. Manufacturers or marketers or whoever handles the pictures likes to take pictures of the PSU with the fan up or flipped over for some reason.

So in a way, yes you can flip them over and yes you can mount them in cases that have the PSU on top.

That 12V rail is way too low for a modern system even with relatively low specs like yours. That Corsair unit you linked to will work fine.

If you want to save a few bucks, Newegg is having a sale on a 430W Earthwatts which is fairly similar to the Corsair 450W unit:

Though I hear that Antec isn't using Seasonic for their earthwatts anymore. Still a good unit regardless.
