Wii U Digital Purchases

because they make more money that way with the mindless minions who buy the products

Nintendo is so behind when it comes to online services and DRM systems.

They have the transfer utility, but that doesn't do anything for you if your console fails.

I like to believe that given enough attention to this issue, Nintendo will streamline/update their transfer process. Growing pains that could've easily been avoided in the first place? Probably.

Ok, nintendo had made it perfectly clear that this was the way it was going to be on the wii u, RTFM! And u are able to transfer between systems, but instead of calling nintendo he just returns his console to the store for a new one, what a pile. ''OH NOES WHAR ALL MY GAME AT?, WHY CANT ME LOG IN USING MY NINTENDY NETWORC ID?''
Wake up people, RTFM.
Yes growing pains that could be avoided and will probably be stream lined in the future. But nintendo loves to get their stuff out the door before the competitors do, which has always seemed to work more rather well for them.
And i think its good for you to have your games locked on one system, just in case someone does figure out your nintendo id and password they cant get your account without your console. Dosnt mean if ur console bricks ur screwd, just means u have to contact nintendo. Which is really painless and not a hassle. Having to deal with nintendos customer support has been some of the best support i have ever received.

I have to agree 100 % here. People never read any documentation when they buy stuff anymore. It's all there and Nintendo is very easy to deal with. Just a side note I've had zero issue with mine had my deluxe since launch day, never once even a lock up.

Look, I own a Wii U. Do you? The fact that this information was made available to customers doesn't mean that it isn't a poorly designed service. All they would need to do is tie your purchases to your Nintendo ID and allow you to download the games again if you tie your account to a new console. This is elementary. The 360 and PS3 both have Cloud Saves, and my PC has had cloud saves for a couple years at least. Nintendo should definitely fix this gap, because they are the only major player who doesn't have this feature.

I do also agree that it could be done better. BUT you know the 360 ties the content to you console as well as your id. In fact if you don't deactivate your old Xbox when you get a new one old content doesn't work right. Oh and Sony does this to I called them to remove my old unit from my account when I got my new one.

Nintendo just needs to be able to do the same in case of system issues, right now they can do that and have WHEN you send a unit in and they can't fix it. They just have not made the ability public so we can do it ourselves.

And on the subject of cloud saves, Xbox cloud when it goes down leaves you unable to play your games. With PlayStation their cloud storage is tiny and not enough, besides psn being slow as well they need to fix that shit.

The best thing about the Wii U is storage, you aren't forced into a certain form factor like Xbox and PS3 , I have a 2 tb drive hooked to my Wii U , plenty of space for games. Xbox I'm at my limit at 320 GB plus 32 GB flash drive. PS3 is limited by the biggest 2.5 inch drive you can get.

They all do this. Hell even PC gaming publishers have been doing this for ages.

Fucking online DRM sucks. For consumers. But for the 3DS its saving the platform. The DS was so heavily pirated you would never need to buy a game if you owned a F4 flash cartridge. Developers left the DS platform because Nintendo couldn't do shit about it. 2+ years on now and the 3DS still hasn't been truly hacked and no flash cart has been made because of Nintendo's new stance on piracy. I can't blame them in some ways.

But tieing a persons entire account to a modern day console is insane. No modern day console is bullet proof like the SNES/GENESIS days. I still have my Genesis and Sega CD and they both work great , I've gone through 6 360's and 2 PS3's. Nintendo needs to manage this issue right and allow gamers to retrieve their games if their console bites the dust.

Its plain and simple. If you can prove you are the owner , you should get everything back the way it was.

yes it does work! It wont work if u just return your console to the store and return it for a new one, without giving nintendo a call.

Supposedly they will be upgrading the account to tie the games to your ID. (Iwata mentioned it on a direct)
But I can't find any info as to WHEN this will actually be happening. So, we wait.....

Nintendo definitely needs to get with the times. Requiring shipment back to the mother ship just to get your games back is ridiculous. What if the console is physically damaged? Still gotta ship that box of parts back to Nintendo? Plus what happens when you are outside of warranty? Will Nintendo give the same treatment then? Nintendo is launching a "next gen" console into a market where their competitors have already had this functionality for years. Also cell phones all store and recover data online now as well. When my PS3 died I sold it and bought another one. I recovered everything without an issue because this isn't 1995 and Sony has a decent online service.

When I buy a Wii-U and it fails on me within the first 30 days, I should be able to swap that crap out at the store immediately and not have to jump through hoops calling Nintendo.
