I got mine.

I went to Sears at 10:50. Waited fifteen minutes. The clerk told us that they were supposed to have gotten some but didn't think they had and that her manager would look into it if I waited.

Other people came after me, but they didn't wait.

After twenty minutes, the manager came out and told me that she would check the unopened boxes in the back room. Five minutes later, she came back with a Wii. They had another one, but the douche that came after me was too impatient to wait twenty minutes. He went to another store and some other person came up and got it. The store that said douche went to didn't have it.
 
Went to Target about 6:45. They handed out tickets about 7:15. Was #25 of 60. Got my Wii, Zelda, and 2 sets of Wiimotes and nunchucks. Was a good thing I sent my daughter to grab the controllers while I waited in the check-out line. They were about out by the time i got up to pay. She did score $5.00 from the guy behind us to grab him a Wiimote and Zelda :D.

Sears: nothing (originally had 2 Wii)
CompUSA: Diddly squat
Circuit City: Wiimote covers, nothing special left
Best Buy: called - sold out of consoles
Target: nothing special
Toys R Us: a few controllers left, including nunchucks. I was limited to one per the store rules so I got a wiimote and nunchuck.

At least I can pretend I'm playing my Wii for a few days or weeks.
 
I went to get my pre-ordered Wii at the Gamestop launch event last night at midnight. i arrived at the mall at 10:30 pm to gat in line, however there were only like 8 people there!

by the time they were handing out consoles there were only 40 people there. when i got to the storeroom where they were passing consoles out to the line, i saw atleast 11 unopened cases of wiis. and i was near the end of the line!

i have to say that by the time the line was exhausted there were atleast 25 consoles left. no nunchucks or wiimotes, or zeldas, or classic controllers (they said they werent out yet).

needless to say i sped home and set it all up. played wii sports till 2 am and then i crashed.

I went at 8am, waited until 11 when they opened. Around 9 some lady was out put up signs, I asked if they had any. She told me yes. So me and about 10 other people patiently wait, I was number one in line. When they opened the manager jumped on us, told us they had two, but gave out vouchers the night before. What a bunch of bull shit. I gave that woman hell. I called that store for 3 hours, and no one answered last night. I would have had a voucher if they had answered the phone.

So I waited another hour for FYE to open. I could clearly see a couple of Wii's laying in a box near the window. They had been preordered already. I didn't even know they did that.

So I'm stuck waiting.
 
Sold out in a 10 mile radius.

I hit up Best Buy - clearly sold out
CompUSA - they didn't get any to begin with
KMart - ditto
Several Gamestops - yeah, right
Sears - they had two Wii games, no consoles in sight
FYE - didn't get jack
KB Toys - ditto
Walmart - no consoles

I was gonna go to the Target/Best Buy farther away, but it would have been a lost cause.

Oh well, I'm not dying here, I still have PS2 games to play.
 
Called and drove around yesterday afternoon and my Wal-Mart had people camping in tents at about 3 and the other a little further away had had people waiting in line since Friday so I knew that was a lost cause. Target had a designated place for people to line up and no one was there yet so I went home, got stuff together (warm clothes, chair, all my portable electronics, girlfriend :), etc) and headed up to camp at 6:30PM.

Got there, still no one and so I put my chair behind the sign and parked my car right next to where the line was. No one showed up for another couple hours and one guy got there and asked me if I was in line and put his chair behind mine and got back in his car too. I wrote my and his name down to keep track of who was actually getting a Wii vs who was just there. An hour after that another two showed up, one who worked there and confirmed to me that they were getting 24 so I was pretty excited, even though even if they only got 1 I was the first in line :)

A few more people showed up but basically by about 6:00am that morning there were only 11 on my list, so I pretty much could have showed up at 6:30AM rather than PM and gotten one, but as I posted before I camp for the fun, not just to get what I'm there for :)

The BestBuy I started at had 102 in stock at the start of the day, but 105 people in line. What this means is people want it, but didn't get into all the hype. Judging from the crash of all the ebay auctions its fair to say that the handful of people that were willing to pay hundreds or thousands over retail have been sated and the rest are probably doing to be either held onto until xmas or actually used (imagine that).

Bottom line, the Wii is the hot commodity this year but the hype generated by the PS3 overshadowed it. The true demand by gamers is actually for the Wii.

I gotta agree with you, my local mall with 2 EB's with nintendo rep's promo and a target sold out over 350 wii's hours in advance taken up by huge lines of over 400 people, I showed up a couple hrs in advance and barely squeaked in (I was #275ish or so between the two stores). This console is in GIGANTIC demand, at least in the northeast area of the U.S. (CT specifically for me). The NYC Wii Toys'R'Us got in FIVE THOUSAND (yes, 5000) units and sold out by about 4-5am from their midnight launch. The Wii is H U G E. Every other store within a 10-mile or so radius was sold out, people were coming in line saying the others were already camped wildly or sold out of at least 40-50 per store.
 
All my major local retailers where sold out at midnight or had lines 50+ (olympia washington area)

Stumbled across a short line at our local ShopKo (4 people) at 6:30am and ended up with ticket #5 out of 10... Very happy camper. :D

They even let us in the foyer to get out of the cold rain wile waiting.

So far lovin 2 player Wii Sports with the GF. Haven't picked up another game yet.
 
I honestly thought that I would just be able to waltz into any store Sunday morning and grab a Wii for myself. It was not that easy.

I hung out at my friend's house most of Saturday evening, just kickin' it and watching TV.
I left at about 11:30PM to scope out the nearest Wal-Mart. There wasn't a line outside, but there were people inside milling around the electronics department. I asked an older fellow what they were all waiting for, and he told me that they had tickets to get a Wii. Apparently, WM handed out tickets to the people in line, and if you got a ticket, you could come back at midnight and pick up the system. They had 20 Wiis to sell.

Not feeling disheartened yet, I went to the other side of town. I passed a Target on the way, and saw that about 20 people were already camping outside (it was about 11:50PM).
I drove on.

As I approached out town's other WM, I saw a line of maybe 40-50 people outside. I went to the back of the line, and asked the guys there what the scoop was. They told me that WM had possible 53 Wiis to sell. So I waited. I waited 45 minutes, passing the time by playing oldschool Contra on my GBA and talking with the folks in line. WM was only letting 4 people in at a time to buy a system. After about 45 minutes, an employee walked out and told us that they had sold out of Wiis. Apparently, the 53 units was really 40. I guess somebody doesn't know how to count. :mad:

Dejected, I went home and surfed on the net until about 3AM, not really wanting to wake up early to find a Wii. My alarm woke me up at 7:30AM, and not having anything better to do, I changed and went to the Target I had passed last night.

I arrived at the store around 9:05AM, and did not see anybody waiting outside the store. I made it to the electronics department, and saw a line of about 15 people at the cash register. Turns out that this Target had 60 Wiis, and gave out tickets to the people who were waiting in line early this morning. All but 5 people had come in to pay for and claim their Wiis. As for the 5 systems that went unclaimed, a Target employee said that they would give the people until noon to claim them. If they did not turn up by then, they would sell the systems on a first come first serve basis, and that is why there were people waiting in line, even though they did not have a ticket. I stood in line for about 5 minutes, and I realized that waiting here for 3 hours hoping against hope that 5 people would not show up was ludicrous.

Luckily, the Toys 'R Us was across the street, so I headed over there. I parked my car and immediately noticed that there were about 20 people standing in line outside (the store opens at 10AM). Upon approaching the line, a man whom I assume to be "head of the line" approached me and asked if I was waiting for a Wii. I replied I didn't know yet, and asked him for specifics. This particular TRU sold all 41 preorders, and were expecting to have 19 extras on hand to sell to walk ins. The man had a clipboard with the people's name on it, so they would know what position in line they would be. The next open spot was #25, and since he told me there would be only 19 extras, I declined to sign the list. I saw an old high school friend waiting in the line, and he told me that had had been camping there since 2AM. Him and his friend were number 7 and 8 in line. Shooting the breeze for another 5 minutes, I decided to sign the list after all. I got in my #25 position and waited (it was now 9:45AM). The head of the electronics department came out to speak to us, and he said he had good news. The store actually had 26 extra Wiis to sell! I felt very relieved that I did sign the list after all. A nice young woman behind me got the 26th and last Wii of the day.

Fortunately for me I did not have to go to the other Target and WM in another town, nor did I have to visit Best Buy and Circuit City.

I ended up buying the Wii, an extra Wiimore and nunchuk, classic controller, and Trauma Center: Second Opinion at TRU.

Later that same evening, I went back to the first Target and picked up Red Steel and Twilight Princess.

It was a good day. :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that after I bought my Wii and accessories at the TRU, an employee told the manager that they were short one Wii. Apparently, they had sold 27 of the "only 26" extras they had. Nonplussed, he remarked that he had an "extra extra 2" Wiis for just such an occasion. :p
 
Camped out in front of best buy at 4pm; was 30 out of 45. Got everything I wanted except for a nunchuck; I can't seem to find them anywhere! Hopefully they'll get more in soon...

Glad to hear your efforts paid off man thats great! I got extremely lucky...Me and my buddy showed up @ 6:15 am at Target, waited 30 mins, manager came out handed out tickets , went had breakfeast ( hot breakfeast no less! ), cam back picked it up, been playing Wii Sports and Zelda ever since!
 
Ive gone to quite a few stores in lubbock trying find a couple nunchucks, most of them have some wiimotes, no wiis, and no nunchucks. some are out of zelda, but most have quite a few games.

Id say you're going to have a hell of a time finding one this week. Im glad I waited :D

Wiisports is fucking fantastic. My GF actually loves it, we've been playing for about an hour.
 
My dad was even playing wii sports bowling, and he was doing better than me. I hope he doesn't try to keep it when I go back to college. I haven't even had time to play zelda yet, I've been playing monkey ball and wii sports the whole time :D
 
i coudln't even believe it, i went to 4 local stores and they were ALL sold out, my circuit city where i work would NOT let me buy a unit, and i was like crap...so i went to gamestop on a last hope and my local gamestop got 300 UNITS IN STOCK! i didn't even wait in line i just walked in and walked out with a wii...it was freakin unbelievable

Northern NJ [Lyndhurst Area]:

Target - Line started forming at closing on saturday. Friend got spot 24 out of 60
TRU - All pre-orders, line formed early for rest
Best Buy #1- Line formed way early, no hope
Best Buy #2 - I got there at 3:30am and got #100 of 102.

Best Buy did a ticket system. you got there and agve your name and got on the list with a number. 6am they lined everyone up. 7:45 they handed out tickets. I was at the end of the line practically, didn't get out of the store with a wii until 10:15, but hot damn it was worth it. All my friends grabbed on, so we got together and played some wii bowling, madden 07, and marvel ultimate alliance. all i can say is...FUN!

My local mall had a Nintendo promotion going on between two EB's and Target, they had well over 350 units total, so it's not very far-fetched :). They were accounted for hours before opening by a gigantic, but pleasant, line.

Called up my relative that wanted me to pick her up two for my niece and nephew. She tells me that for doing this for her, she is going to reimburse me for my Wii, Zelda, and the wiimote/nunchuck. Super Triple Word Score 6 -10 :D

FREE Wii for me.

And to top it off, I drove by Circuit City and people were still standing outside and had not so much gotten a ticket. I had three by 9am CST

LOL! The Ultimate Score was when we drove by best buy after breakfeast and asked the campers how long they've been waiting, they replied "since 1:00p.m yesterday". Dam!
 
I camped out at the Best Buy in Spokane, WA for two days. I arrived Friday, 2:00 PM, first in line. I thought I was going crazy once the BB employees told me they had 85 Wii's, but my patience paid off. Yes, they had 85 Wii's, but this morning there were over 140 people in line, and there were only 6 copies of Twilight Princess. SIX! They apparently had accidentally started selling them days before, and I was super glad that I was first.

Though, I'll tell you, sleeping in the car may suck, but sleeping in a camp chair under blankets sucks worse. Thank god they let us pull our vehicles up after they closed and sleep in them.


First Wii in Spokane, baby. And I don't even live there.

I was in line for 10 hours... actually, it wasn't that bad. maybe i could've done a day.

I feel lucky that my toysrus was one of the 18 doing the midnight thing. The walmart right next to it isn't 24 hours so there were people in line there for the 6am launch. I drove by and brandished my Wii box out the window screaming "WOOOOO Wiiiii!!!!!!"

...yeah, i'm a douchebag. oh well.
 
So, now that Wii day is officially in the books, and I am short precisely one Wii (and I had intended to purchase only one), what's the best plan for satisfaction by the end of the week? Has anyone found out anything concerning the next shipments?

I hear talks of weekly shipments from launch until the holidays. Something on the order of 250000 systems a week to the US (or is it just the Americas as a whole?).

I think the bigger retailers will still be getting the bulk of them (i.e. Target).
 
Oh, as an addition: the reason our line grew so big so fast is because the Toys 'R Us down the street had told their employees to go around spreading word that they would have 98 units. In reality? 15. We had the other 83 people (minus a few, but you get the point) come join us after TRU's false midnight launch. I'm surprised none of the employees were killed...I would have been pissed.

Which reminds me. I checked all the major retailers today and something caught my eye. Target had a special that if you bought 3 games from a particular list they gave you a free $20 gift certificate. I'm not sure if it was a launch day special or not, but keep an eye out for similar deals when you get yours.

lol, most of them were probably preorders. Or they didn't get what they were supposed to. Most every toysrus I've heard of got 80+

toysrus is doing something similar, buy 3 from a list and you save $30.

I got in on that, it was launch day only though, it was on the back of all the tickets they handed out to everyone in line.
 
Nintendo World in NYC had a large number of Wii's to sell to both pre-orders and walk-ins. The line was about 2 city blocks long and I waited 6 hours since 11am, but IMO it's better than camping overnight in 40 degree weather. The only reason why they started turning people away was because they were closing at 6PM. There was even a spat between a group of people who pre-ordered and attempted to cut the line a few minutes before closing. Great entertainment.

But anyways, for those still looking for a Wii in the NYC area, this is probably your best bet until the next Wii shipment.

In any case, I'm going to grab a DS as a bit of a hold-over until proper satisfaction. If any kind of Wii-DS interaction stuff begins showing up, I should be set.

Thanks for mentioning that. I saw that as well but I couldn't remember which store was offering it. I think I know where I'll be getting mine from since it looks like the Target offer was today only.

If you don't mind paying a little more check ebay. You can find them for less then 350 shipped. I got one for less then that overnighted. Should get it tuesday. Figure overnight shipping would have been like 30 bucks by itself.
 
Went into Target and TRU here hoping for such a promo. But TRU was sold out...of EVERY GAME and EVERY accessory. Target had Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, RedSteel, those crappy UbiSoft racing games, and Madden.
 
Best Buy and Target both had about 50 people in line when I drove by around 5 am. I went to K-mart 2 hours before it opened and was the only one there. About 10 people eventually showed up since they saw me and a couple of others in line, but K-mart only had 4 Wiis when they opened. I guess no one expected K-mart to get any.
 
near me, there's a best buy, sears, circuit city, 3 gamestops/ebgames, 6 walmarts, 2 blockbusters (that sell video games), and 2 targets.

Every single place had a line at least in the double digits on saturday; I seriosly thought I could walk into a place on sunday and just get one. So I went to one of the walmart, they were getting 30, and I waited in line 10 hours as number 27/30. Got one at midnight, so I'm happy.

There were people coming from within 30-40 miles saying they went to all the above listed stores and more and all the places had full lines for either a 12am or even morning release.

On sunday, after owning just the system and zelda (which is good, since EVERY store around here sold out of zelda) 5 stores that I went to were all sold out of nunchucks - I got a 2nd wii-mote but not a nunchuck.

I'd say Nintendo had a VERY successful launch IMO
