Just curious is demand dying or are they still selling right when they get off the shelves?

Since I owned one from week one, I have just gone around when shopping (in general) and have asked, but have always been told sold out.
~This has been at BB, EBgames, Targets, Gamestop. Just stopped by EBgames yesterday to sell some stuff, and they were all out. This also includes Wiimotes/Nunchucks.

Demand is still up. It's not quite where it was the week before Christmas, but you're still unlikely to show up and see them on multiple store shelves for long.
Definitely more so than the PS3 which isn't quite uber-common, but it's pretty easy to get if you look.

The Wii is the only console I have seen where demand actually increased after launch. On launch day it was relatively easy to get as far as console launches go. The week after launch I went to Best Buy because they had them in their Sunday ad. I got there half an hour before opening and got on easily. After that, things really started going crazy. I had to buy more for various family members (mainly because they loved mine) and in the runup to Xmas things got worse and worse every week (longer lines to wait in, having to get there hours beforehand and then not getting one, ...). If you want empirical proof that this is the case just look at ebay. the first two weeks Wiis were going for $350-$400. After that prices actually escalated to the $450-$500 range. The prices on ebay are STILL in the $350 range. That means that the demand for Wiis is still about the same as it was right after launch (ironic that the first two weeks of launch were probably the easiest time to find them). However, this also means that demand has decreased significantly from the craziness of mid-December to late December. I think it will still be amonth or so before things really start to calm down. Nintendo has produced a console that has produced more hype, word of mouth advertising, and people trying one and then just HAVING to buy one type of publicity than I have EVER seen in a video game console. I have never seen a console actually become more difficult to find after launch even with the runup to Xmas. The PS2, PS3, and 360 prices all continued to fall as Xmas approached, ebayers who think that consoles get higher prices the week before Xmas are idiots who end up losing their money EXCEPT with the Wii, that is the only time this has ever happened.

you can never be sure if the the console is not vaailable because of high demand, or just no shipments of it...

it was always hard to get one in my town... up till christmas time.. you had to line up 6 hours before to even have a chance of getting one...

I got lucky and walked into a TRU in miami (visiting friends and family).. and they just got in a shipment of 4.. however.. i was checking around here (GAinesville FL) and it still looks pretty hard to get one here...

When the Wii first came out, I really wanted one. My friends all raved about it and I had more than enough money to splooge on one.
It's been quite awhile after the launch, I still haven't been able to get my hands on one, and yanoo what? I don't want one anymore.

My walmart in Middle TN has a 20 gig PS3 on the shelf.. I've never seen a Wii there as of yet....

Its selling like hotcakes everywhere.

It sure is. I am guessing plenty of people played these things during family gatherings/or parties during the past few weeks. They sell themselves, demand could actually be going up. After playing the Wii for about 20 minutes at my aunt and uncle's house, I think Nintendo automaticly got 4 more sales :p

I'm in a town of 70k, 2 wal-marts, a target, BB, Gamestop, Sears, 2 shopko locations. I got mine on launch day and have yet to see another system on the shelf anywhere since. All first party accessories are scarce as hen's teeth as well. I'm still short one nunchuck, haven't seen one anywhere since about 2 weeks before xmas.

Yeah... it's the sort of system that you show someone and they're suddenly interested. Same happened with the DS. I got shown it by a friend (wasn't interested at first) and I thought it was pretty cool so I got one for me and the missus. Took it to my mother's house, had a few games with the family and now there's 8 DS total. =)

I've seen a few nunchucks and wiimotes being put on the shelf, but when I check later that day thier out, as for the ps3s the walmart in my area stocked 4 of them on wensday, and sofar only 1 of them has sold, thing is I want a Wii and not a PS3. (for some reason never even seen a wii there except for launch, but couldn't get one then)

(I check it everyday, because I work there and walk past it)

I guess a bunch of my girl's family are looking for a Wii now so she's been asking around at different places. The 2 shopko's both have waiting lists over 100 people long, and pretty much every where else says when they get them in they are gone within an hour. The gamestop told her, not sure if i believe them, that they sold 20 systems in 45 minutes right after Christmas.

The PS3 is always in stock at my local Gamestop. Not the Wii.

I still don't see either on shelves at common stores, but I can't say I have been to many stores after Christmas. Gamestop I check out at lunch more often because it is next to a Chipolte.

I got one launch day, and it just so happens I was checking slickdeals.net and the toys r us by me got some more in (this was tues.). I went, picked another one up, and figured my buddy from college would want it, because he can't find one. I got home, called him, couldn't get a hold of him, and then saw the prices on ebay. I still couldn't get him so I put it on an eBay 24hr auction. Sold wed for $430 shipped :). My buddy may be pissed he missed out when classes start again, but I made about $130 after tax and ebay fees. Yeah for supply and demand!

I am constantly on the lookout for a Wii.

The minute I see one in a store, out comes the plastic.

My friend waited overnight twice and didn't get one.

Yesterday he was at Walmart and saw one hidden at the bottom. He rushed over to get it and soon after, there were people asking about it. The ones in the back were gone before my friend could get his brother to buy another for another friend.

Sheer timing luck.

Ya I just checked my locel EB in Vancouver, people are standing in the store waiting to see what the orders are when they come in. How long will this craze last, I assume to the end of Jan and then it should be a lot calmer maybe a little more time

I tried at 3 local Targets today with no luck. Demand is still very high.

I called all three carriers in town daily this past week...and managed to get one when three showed up at Wal Mart...

...now I can't find ANY remotes/nunchucks throughout western Missouri. My wife and I are dying for some two player goodness!!

I would say there is still high demand

order the remotes/nunchucks directly from nintendo. it should take about a week to get them

I just called one of my local walmarts and got lucky!!! I already have mine but a friend of the family has been looking for one for his son since launch without any luck. Wally world had 5 so I dropped the phone and ran down there, bout 10mins later I had one. They had 5, I bought one, another customer was buying another and a guy walked up and asked for one as I was leaving.... North Carson City WalMart in Carson City, NV if you happen to live there.

Yeah around here the Ebay jihad squads keep rounding all the units up..bastards..

The craze will die down eventually once other console prices drop and the novelty wears off. They'll still sell well, but it won't be hard to find one i'd imagine like it is today.

If it were *novelty* selling the Wii, it would have *already* worn off :). Note the PS3--novelty long since gone.

Still pretty much impossible to get one, as we have about 10 gamestop and ebs, all of them basically say they are sold out the second they get them off the truck. All 3 targets have none and will not specify when they get them. Wal-marts just dont seem to get any at all. Bestbuy says they will only sell them on Sunday and people still line up at like 2:00am because they hand out tickets at 6:00am for that week's shipment.

As far as PS3's go they are in stock everywhere, I could walk into one of the best buys today and get a 20gb or 60gb PS3, too bad they are not Wii's.:(

I just went to gamestop today to pick up rainbow six and they had ps3's, but no wii's.

yeah, ps3's arn't getting to hard to find anymore, I saw 4 ps3s sitting in walmart for 3 days before they where finally sold, thier still selling, but not immediatly like wii's seem to be.

Seems like the best bet to find one is to start calling around Friday night for the weekend deliveries. Seems like alot of people just go by the stores to "happen" to catch one. If you really want one, start calling and find out when they get deliveries and then go by on those days. I have found 2 that way so for (could have gotten 5 this weekend). Stupid me, I should have just bought them and sold them for $50 more!!:D

I got a couple of Wii games for X-mas, and even some new cables/accessories. Wife could never find a Wii. I still don't have one, and I can honestly say I've never even SEEN one- be it in store or at a friends' house (because they can't find them either). :(

Well it certainly seems the wii is selling better then expected, who wants to make bets that it will break at least 10million by the end of the year?

i went out questing for a wii today all the stores i tried had no wiis but they had plenty of ps3s

I lucked out and picked one up today. Went to EB Games and got there at the same time as the UPS man did. They received a shipment of four.
