wow

I was running a 19" CRT monster and thought it was pretty nice ... then got an opportunity to get a 19" Acer LCD for free ... wow ! ..ther realistate saved alone was wow enough let alone the picture quality being more "vibrant" ...

now I am building a new computer setup for my dad to use in his recording studio and he said he would pay me to build it .. I countered to just swap some of my used stuff (still like brand new) for some upgrades ..so , I got a BenQ FP202W Black 20.1" DVI 8ms Widescreen LCD Monitor from newegg that was on sale and will give my dad my Acer 19" LCD ..

All the goods for his comp came in today and I have been playing CS:S and surfen' the net and watching a couple widescreen version movies and ... I ....I ...I wuv' it! ..

I didn't really understand all the whoop la' from other widescreen users until now ...now I am a believer! Yes , I was happy with my near square of a monitor before ..but now I that I have tasted of ..I now know what I was missing

seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee we told you so. But nooooooooo would you listen. No not you. :D

Anyway glad you turned to the other side. Now place that big hunk of machinary (crt) in your closet like the rest of us and forget all about it.

Now now, no need to get rid of your CRT! I'm using my (still capable) Samsung 19"er as my secondary monitor at 1600x1200. It's a great combo, since the CRT can show more vertically than my ViewSonic (see sig). Even if your old CRT isn't anything too hot, having the room for some extra Photoshop windows, a browser, music program, etc. is pretty handy.

In any case, welcome to the fun. Enjoy that baby!

I just made the widescreen jump myself, with the same monitor actually, replacing a 21" CRT, and I too am now converted!!

Lovin it WIDE,

You went down to 19inches, so you lost some real estate compared to the 21in CRT, no?

It is about 1" shorter and 1.75" wider than my 21" CRT which is actually more than I thought I would get going 20.1" wide, so I am quite satistisfied in the real estate aspect.
Plus, for surfing, I have configured my mouse so that I can go full-screen and zoom in to full width in 2-clicks which, even though the smaller monitor is now about 8" further, my viewing experience seems greatly improved.

Where I am really blown away is with gaming and watching movies in wide. I have a small 5.1 pesonal sound setup that just brings it all together. I have never really enjoyed watching DVD's on my pc until I met this monitor.

Wide to the end!

viva la 5.1 surround too!

my BenQ for the visuals and my Logitechs for all encompassing audio

my pc is my tv/stereo/home theatre/gaming console/college university (ala google :p )

going wide just "broaden'd" my horizons ...
;)

Congratulations to the OP, and welcome to the club. Be warned though, there's no way you can quit this particular club =) Once you go widescreen there's no turning back.
