Why would my processor suddenly need so much more voltage?

why does my processor take 1.45 volts when it took 1.33 volts before to hit 4.2ghz? I did try overclocking to 4.5ghz with 1.6 volts, could that have done my chip in or my mobo?
 
Possible chip degradation? I hope the mobo is fine.

Seems more likely to be chip related than mobo. Is it still stable at 4.2ghz?

Unfortunately, yes it could have damaged the chip.

Intel Absolute max Vcore for I7 is 1.55V. The 1.6 + whatever overshoot the CPU voltage regulation circuitry was adding during transitions from no to high load (stress test kicking in) may have been a bit too much. Speculation, never know for sure, but it is more likely the CPU that is damaged, the board is not all that sensitive to higher voltages, in fact it produced them readily.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Still, it is still working so that is something.
