such as silencer if it voids warrantee?

for example, bgf offers lifetime warrantee on their product...so the worse that could happen is ur card overheats and breaks, in which case you would just get a new one from the warantee. but if u swtich the heatsink and it breaks after some time, u won't be able to get a replacement :confused:
 
They're using a new cooler because of a few factors.

1.Less noise
2.Better cooling, which leads to...
3.Better overclock

Also, they'll probably upgrade before their card brakes, and if it does break, they have a new reason to upgrade to the newest tech...
 
It only really voids the warrantee if you are a honest person. If the card breaks, you can just slap the stock heatsink back on and send it back. I had a ATI card go bad on me because a capaciter went bad. I put the stock heatsink back on and sent it back. It was even missing the shim, but I got a new card back no questions asked.

Before you flame me, I wouldn't have RMA'ed it if the problem was caused by me installing the new heatsink, it was a manufacturing defect unreleated to the heatsink.

no one is going to flame you. i guess your situation is what i was worrying about.
i've never taken a card cooler off before...does it look like new when you slap it back on? do the companies check AT ALL to c if u've taken it off? or did u just get lucky with that one.

I don't think they messed much with mine since the problem was obvious. The capaciter was obviously toasted, the cap was domed and cracked. Also the sink on my card wasn't glued on, just a thermal pad. The sink still had the thermal pad attached to it so that part wasn't missing.

What exactly are you planning to do? I put a custom cooler because I run an extremely quite system, I don't do any overclocking. If you are going to overclock your card then you are voiding your warrantee anyway, so you might as well replace the cooler. And yes the card looks exactly the same when you replace the cooler. You can only tell if you remove the heatsink again.
 
i am not planning to OC at all; however, i do like the idea of having a quieter thing.

also, this is what i am thinking:
if i buy bgf card (i heard the heatsink isn't that good), but i'll have lifetime warantee so i don't really have to worry about the heat, cause if it dies, i'll be able to get a replacement.

if a buy another manufacturer's card (usually 3 years warantee), i WANT to replace the cooler to extend the life of the card, but at the same time, i am afraid there might be a defect in the card (such as bad cap), in which case i would have voided my warantee

Some people think that the benefits of an after market cooler outweighs the low possiblity of losing money if your card dies. It's not a matter of how rich you are, rather it is rationally assessing the probabilities.

Let's face it, you have a 1/1000 chance probably of a card dying. Probably better... I'd take silence (or lower noise) and that risk any day.
 
Im plannin on buying a silencer for my 6800gt because im sick of the stock POS heatsink. I can handle some noise, but the stock hsf is a fucking joke. Nvidia and ATI should just liscence the silencer from Arctic Cooling and stick it on every card to make everybody happy and solve all they're tacky cooling crap issues.

Side Note: I don't like MSI very much so if my 6800gt breaks with the new cooler, ill replace it with old one, send it back and be content.
 
Some manufacturers are doing that, using the Arctic design. Wouldn't surprise me if some go to Zalman as well...
 
This is the [ H] bro...most of us do not think about warranty issues when we play with our toys. After market cooling gets that baby cold and gets the oc up there.
 
if i don't play to do any oc...which manufacturer would be good? without ocing, i think most manufacturer's heatsink and fan would be sufficient, but which is the quietest?

HIS Excaliber and Galaxy both use the Arctic Silencer on their cards.

Using after market coolers, like zalman's is usually to have quieter cooler, not "cooler" ..but if
it happens to be also cooler, then its just plus.
