I don't know I'm just picking a number lol

This is a former fanATIc, but not a current nVidiot. The f4nboyism is pointless, i have discovered. No one is going to throw his x800 or his fx in the garbage because on any of [insert nvidia or ati f@nb0y]'s ramblings. The intellectuals will most likely start to avoid these ATI vs NVIDIA flame wars. The morons will endure. People WILL get banned. Noobs will continue to prove why that title is under his/her name. People will get banned. Some may get turned off of [H]. In the end, what have the videocard wars accomplished?

Mind you, the Dell deal on the XT is really outstanding... For people in the US anwyays.

And who says they won't incorporate PS 3.0 in their future VPUs?

conscript said:well, I played doom3 at 1600x1200 with my x800 pro without any issues at second highest setting and noticed no performance issues, so I'm a bit fuzzy on what "poor ogl performance" constitutes. In fairness, I never checked what fps i was getting, but never did the game stutter or cause me any enjoyment issues, which at the end of the day is all that matters to me.![]()
Anyway, my reference was more to the 9700 versus the 5700 line. That difference does not exist today.
This thread is a flame war? Except for yourself and a few others that posted without reading, this is a discussion with everyone stating their opinions on a broad range of things.apHytHiaTe said:Regardless of what anyone says (ok i admit it, i read nearly none of this thread; theyre all the same), Nvidia won this round and ATI lost. conscript said:you have a poor memory. Never has Nvidia released their top of the line card for $175.
diddie said:Too bad the 5700 was never a top of the line card
conscript said:I'm sorry, I meant the 5800
rancor said:everyone knows the 5800 couldn't match the 9700 because of the 5800's 128 bit interface. But then again it was delayed for close to year. It was never ment to take on the 9700. Actaully it does get close as long as its texture pipelines weren't pushed. A better comparision would be the 5900 to the 9700 and if the time lines went as planned that is what would have happened.
conscript said:man you just won't let it go. The 9800 came out when the 5900 did, so that would be the comparison. The 5800 was the same generation as the 9700, it just got delayed insanely long. and there was still no comparison between the 9800 and 5900, no matter which way you sliced it, or are you new to the forums?
edit: i see that you are new.
R1ckCa1n said:Yup yup,...... funny though, ATI beat NV hands down across all offerings for three releases and now we have NV beating ATI in one offering ( Pro -v- GT) and the forums are full of big heads.
rancor said:Excuse me I know alot more about graphics cards and where and when they came out then most people here, The 5800 was supposed to be out before the 9700. and how long did it take nV to get the 5900 out after the 5800? 2 maybe 3 months at most. ATi refresh the 9800 came. The 5900 wasn't even slated it was a rushed project to save face. Which it did just fine, but there were issues with the fx architecture that game developers had to take into concideration when programming. Pound for pound both the 9800 and and 5800/5900 had very similiar computational power specailly when it came to polygon pushing (nV was a little bit higher do the the extra clocks). Where the fx line lacked was dx pixel shader performance, and with next gen games thats a big thing. They were still strong in Ogl though.
And believe me if a game programmer doesn't take that into concidertion guess what thats what happened with Valve. I can say this for a fact the source engine is not that great. When you base technology on something as old as the Quake 2 engine you will come out with midiocrity, and thats what the Source engine is. Performance wise it does a max of 21 million polygons per sec on a ati 9800, or a fx 5900, also a 5800. Crytek is about 30 million, Stalker is at 40 million, Doom 3 is at 20 million, Guess what Source and Doom 3 have the same inherent problems the BSP tree.
The Batman said:9700P -> 5800U
9800P -> 5900U
9800XT -> 5950U
That's how I see it.

Nv is beating ATi in 3 offerings...$300 where there is no competition...$400 where the competition is slower...and $500 where there is no competition...

Needless to say I am very dissapointed in the video card forum fans as a whole.

The Source engine is a brand new engine developed in house by valve. It is not based off of the original Half-Life engine.rancor said:Its a rewritten Q2 engine. What do you think it was. Fresh start? What do you think Doom 3 is a rewrite of the Q3.
Even Carmack said BSP trees are out, why the hell are they still used?
The draw backs to BSP trees is data varaiance and flexiability. You can't expect Doom 3 or Source engine to do what Crytek or Stalker does. On the other hand Crytek and Stalker can do what Doom 3 and Source do.
They are still using BSP trees because they are easy to use and program with. But there is a cost for ease as mentioned above.
