Why do you love PC gaming?

Though I spent the majority of my childhood/teenage yeard gaming on consoles, I just realized that for the last year or so the PC has become my choice for gaming.

My last 360 failed awhile back, so I decided to order a new video card and it's been history since then.

I've only really built one rig, but thinking back to the enjoyment that ordering all the parts, tinkering with them and then being able to game on a home build PC brought about more satisfaction in general than my time console gaming.

It's just awesome firing up the PC, booting up one of your favorite titles, and being able to "tinker" with everything. After "tinkering" you get to actually enjoy the game itself.

Dunno what the real point of this thread is but.....anyhoo. I love PC gaming. :)

Better graphic options and mods. Controls tailored for the PC.

Because WE control our own systems, and not some other 'service'.

OUR way, not theirs.

Turning up all of the graphical enhancements to 11 NEVER gets old. It's financially irresponsible and totally illogical in many cases, but it feels soo good. I always compare it to building a project car; equal parts love, effort, and money results in something that simply cannot be matched.

Better graphics is important. Even if the graphics are the same, 60 FPS is always worth the investment. I can't stand playing anything at 30 FPS any more. It's so awkward and jagged when you turn the camera at 30fps. That's the whole reason I'm getting rid of my 360, just can't stand that crap any more.

I love the speed and competition/skill of PC FPS. I started with Quake 2 and I can't stand playing an FPS with a controller. Even if you get used to it, it limits the entire game as it needs to be slowed down (example: Halo floaty jumps)

I dunno why people who have never played with a Keyboard and Mouse think aiming is so easy?

I couldn't touch vo0 even in my best of days lol

my 1st love was single player gaming on my ps1 (ff7, ff8 and mgs etc etc) then my friend introduced me to online multiplayer gaming on the pc in the form of ut2k3 and bf1942. Safe to say I was addicted to it right away more than crack. I just loved the competition and how awesomely fun it was being in a clan and having serious games that meant something (league comps etc). I hardly play fps online anymore as nothing has held my attention like ut2k3 and ut2k4 did. I am looking forward to modern warfare 2 though, and im hoping it will rekindle my competitive fps love again.

tl;dr
online multiplayer gaming got me hooked to pc gaming :)

My Thing is PC gaming is better because you can have much much better graphics depending on how good your system is. I dont want to be stuck @ 1080p and alot of jaggies. What if I wanted to run the PS3 @ 2048x1536 and 8x AA..... I dont have that option.

But I do with a PC :)

What else am I suppose to do with my time? Besides, you can always throw in the reminder that you got the extra COD maps free.

Also, I think my brother-in-law would have a nice pc now after being on his third 360. Nothing like the red ring of death to remind console owners that Microsoft still sucks. :D

I cannot belive I forgot that!

Free DLC ftw!

Modern consoles are great for very casual, simple gaming. There is no real competitive nature, or at least nowhere near the level seen on the PC..

Furthermore... I echo everything about modding, graphics, customization.

Consoles seem good for sports games, however I fiercely dislike those games. Perhaps fighting games are an exception (I'm unsure), and racing is a different category altogether, but consoles are ok there as well.

I can concede that the console is GREAT for anything that promotes casual group-play.

The mouse and the keyboard.

+1, and free DLC.

I wouldn't mind console ports, but the control mapping from console to PC always seems to suck balls......, this is pretty much my only gripe...

SR

EDIT And checkpoint saves suck, mostly comes from consoles, mostly. Let me save when I want to save... /END EDIT

EDIT2 And I like custom maps/campaigns, etc.....that I get free!! /END EDIT2

Better controls and vastly superior options for customization. Of course customization does depend on the game, but more often than not this is the case. Also, despite how much it hurts the wallet, the tangible technological advancement is always interesting/exciting.

Better graphics, more control options, better controls, customization, mods, etc.

Flexibility, customisability:

I can work, game, read, download, email, chat all AT THE SAME time.

example: 2 weeks ago I was sick, stayed home to avoid infecting everyone in the office but worked from home. I had Aion open in windowed mode, and when I had to wait on a colleague to complete something to procede I played for 5-6 minutes. I had my IP Phone running connected over the VPN, was chatting, surfing and gaming while working.

Can't do that on an Xbox.

I also like to dabble in other operating systems, or try out various things before having to implement them. You can't setup a Call-Manager cluster on an Xbox and you can't play a game while pontificating a problem with said cluster running either.

I multitask (I'M aware I must suck then) something fierce.

I prefer using a keyboard and mouse to game. Controllers simply aren't comfortable to me and they feel incredibly limited in what they can do. I grew up gaming on both the PC and consoles and have always felt more at ease with the PC. I will never get used to playing FPS or WRPGs on consoles and those are the big genres for me. I don't even own any current gen systems none of them were compelling enough for me to keep them long.

I don't have any current-gen or last-gen consoles, so PC gaming is my only option.

Besides, PC's can do much, much more than play games.

because i can use my keyboard and mouse or the controller. You just can get the perfect headshot with a keyboard.
Immersion is so good with my computer too. Being like 2 feet in front of my monitor with the surround blowing is great.
Being able to customize my computer to my liking is even better. Showing it off, bragging, all that extra stuff. It might cost 3x as much as a 360 or a PS3, but its soo worth it.
Many more reasons, but too many to write.

Pretty much everything already mentioned, plus cheaper games (except Modern Warfare 2, damn you Activision) and much better digital distribution.

X2 to everything said previously. It truely saddens me that PC gaming has become a shell of its former self. Here's to hoping for a pc gaming renaissance.

For a FPS fan like me,nothing beats a PC. Keyboard/mouse control is essential, and the few options for this on consoles aren't worth the expense.Nor can consoles match the graphics. Then there's the mods and total conversions that extend the life of a game. And if you're in the mood for some old school arcade fun, there's always M.A.M.E.

I wouldn't say that exactly. Sure, mostly console driven development but still a lot of content and more than enough good games to keep most gamers happy.

I'd say that the next two to three years will be fairly promising. Then generation of consoles are so old and crappy now that I think you're going to see more and more developers break the mold and become more bold with their PC projects simply as a way to distinguish themselves.

the fun of being able to take your machine apart and customize it however you want
always having cutting edge graphics
free(besides mmo's) multiplayer
being able to mod the shit out of almost any game
free updates(poor xbox360 tf2 players :X)
the ability to have more than 16 players in a multiplayer game(atleast thats the highest I've seen for a console game, I don't pay attention to console games so I could be wrong)

It's cheap, if you know what I mean.

Also, multi-platform games naturally work best on PC.

Not to mention (almost entire genres of) games that are not even available on consoles, like Anno and Flight Simulator.

Finally, MSX games.

Thinking about it I guess its because I don't have to buy a console..

guess that sounds stupid.

I buy everything off steam or one of the other sites so I dont have to keep cases around. Not promoting piracy but if its older than xbox I can just emulate it on my PC. There used to be this myth of having to upgrade your pc constantly, but my stuffs about 3 years old now.

I used to be into consoles but nothing has come out to make me want one of the new ones. I usually buy whatever Resident evil is on. I had a gamecube with resident evil zero, rebirth, 2, 3, possibly code veronica(dont remember), and RE 4, but that said Re5 was an arcade shooting thing and so I just beat it at a friends house like youre meant to.

Right now I'm playing Killing Floor, Dawn of war : winter assault, and Titan quest. You can't play those on consoles so no point in owning one for me.

i like playing TF2 and L4D Killing floor on steam
also i like playing witcher directors cut
waiting for my new intel 80gb ssd to play em on

PC games are more Multiplayer, social, hardcore, realism and piracy friendly.

The feeling I get from playing a game on a system that I planned, built and tweaked myself."Gaming outside the box". ;)

This pretty much sums it up for me. PC gaming ftw.

I think you can have 32 players in "Section 8"...not %100 sure...

Because you can't game, listen to music, download porn, and browse the internet and talk to a vent room full of people all at the same time on a console. I do love my consoles but a place for everything:D

Just my opinion as to why i like playing game on pc.

Better graphic
Faster loading time
Can get most of xbox 360 / PS3 games in PC.
Better option for Control i.e. keyboard/mouse for FPS, Strategic, etc. xbox pad for racing/fighting.
Can multiply task - check e-mail, browse [H]ardforum, play music and download stuff while gaming.

Man it's refreshing to read this. You're a true PC gamer, welcome aboard!

It's not JUST gaming for me, but the fact that the computer does anything and everything you want it to do, including playing console games on it. I love my puter. *sniffle*
